As we close out #SubstanceUsePreventionMonth, we highlight Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s longest-running prevention campaign, focused on education and awareness in communities. This week, schools across the country are placing a special focus on substance use education. Prevention is especially crucial for adolescents—5.1 million young adults in the U.S. have a substance use disorder, yet 9 out of 10 aren’t receiving the treatment they need. And for working parents, the burden is heavy—53% report missing work due to their child's mental health issues, which often overlap with SUDs. Organizations like SAFE Project are leading the charge, offering education, resources, and support to help communities prevent and address substance use.
