We are excited to introduce Isaiah Curry as the Director of the Pegasus Film Festival 2025, PMP's youth intern program! This year promises to be the biggest and most impactful yet. As we celebrate the festival’s tenth year, Isaiah will be guiding the team to provide high school filmmakers with more opportunities to showcase their work, engage with industry professionals, and be part of a community that values inclusivity and innovation. Be sure to share with young filmmakers so they can submit their films for a chance to premiere at the festival in Dallas, TX, June 20-22, 2025! We are honored to have been selected as an awardee of The Center for Cultural Power's Constellations Grant Cohort along with these two amazing film and media non-profits. Over the past two years, this support has enabled us to focus on what truly matters—expanding our ecosystem of learners with film and media industry partners, strengthening our internal team, and fine-tuning our programming to equip our apprentices and interns to become part of the North Texas film and media community. This funding has provided us the time to deepen our impact and continue producing transformative stories that drive meaningful change. In addition to the financial support, we’ve received important policy guidance and soul-nourishing encouragement that strengthens our work with underrepresented communities in the industry. After five months of intensive training, mentorship, and hands-on workshops, our apprentices presented their pitch decks at Pitch Day, which marks a milestone of their hard work, creativity, and collaboration under the guidance of our dedicated industry professionals. A note of gratitude goes out to our panel of judges, Kaysie Ellingson, Sophia Basiliadis, Niloo Jalilvand, Ryan Blitzer, Tamitha Barbosa Curiel, Chelsea ONeal Sweat, Christian Vasquez, Allan Thomas, Marisa Mendoza, and Hal Dantzler for helping us create an ecosystem of learners where artists can learn, grow and contribute meaningfully. Join us tonight at City Hall as we celebrate the artists and visionaries who make it all possible! One of the highlights of 2023 was being included in the Dallas Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Racial Equity Now Cohort (Re-Now). There, we connected with Jess Garland and her Swan Strings initiative. Jess applied through our partnership portal to be one of three nonprofits collaborating with our MAP apprentices to create mini-promos or docs. In the spring and summer of 2024, we produced a beautiful project brought to life by our talented Fellows—Judah Agbonkhina, N'Kole Bryant, Saige Carraway, Harleigh Nelson, and Tito Contreras.?? Our connection with Aurora dates back to early film club collaborations, and seeing connections overlap in meaningful ways is rewarding. PMP Board Members Valuable Insights Our PMP board members came together to share their invaluable knowledge and experience on a range of topics, including freelancing, documentary filmmaking, passion projects, networking, and the importance of doing the work. - Kaysie Ellingson (KERA) discussed her work covering stories within the DFW community. Her most recent work is? Recovering the Stories which chronicles significant events in the city of Dallas, tracing the impacts on BIPOC communities and neighborhoods from the past to the present. - Jake Hochendoner (DP) shared insights on documentary filmmaking and his multi-modal approach to his film "Fire Boys." the untold story of young men incarcerated in California who are offered a way out through fighting wildfires. - Matthew Osborne spoke about confidence, self-motivation, and financial awareness when transitioning from freelance work to establishing his own company, 19 Productions. He emphasized recognizing your value and setting appropriate rates, while also understanding when collaboration with other artists might necessitate flexible pricing structures. - Christian Vasquez highlighted the interconnectedness of art and activism and discussed how mastering the fundamentals of filmmaking allows artists to immerse themselves in stories that are both personally meaningful and impactful to the community. He highlighted his work with Mothers Against Police Brutality and a documentary film, Hundreds of Thousands, that amplified the issues of incarcerating individuals who need mental health support instead of punitive response.
