We are excited to announce our investment into?Brazil-based agriculture innovator Agrion Fertilizantes to tackle nutrient pollution with eco-friendly product lines of organo-mineral fertilizers that align with sustainable agriculture practices and circular economy principles. “The excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture can lead to these inputs being washed into waterways, which in turn carry them out to sea, threatening coastal habitats and coral reefs,” said Dale Galvin, managing director of the Global Fund for Coral Reefs, who will also join the board of Agrion. “Among the impact sectors financed by the Fund are the circular economy and pollution management, which is where Agrion fits in. By providing a destination for highly polluting sugarcane waste, then utilized by those farms and processors that generate the waste themselves, the company contributes to the resilience of marine ecosystems.”

We are excited to announce key milestones for the establishment of the Blue Green Bank (BGB) with the passage of the Blue Green Bank Act and the signing of the funding agreement with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to support the most vulnerable in Barbados and the wider Caribbean region through climate-resilient investments. We have been actively involved in the creation and establishment of BGB from the beginning and will be involved in its administration and oversight going forward.?Initial capital and support for the BGB was secured through funding from the Green Climate Fund, USAID, the Government of Barbados, and The Rockefeller Foundation. “These recent milestones to advance the Blue Green Bank are critical accomplishments that will help us increase climate resilience and economic stability in Barbados and beyond,” said Craig Cogut, founder, chairman and CEO of Pegasus Capital Advisors. “The BGB will allow us to accelerate, scale and replicate diverse investment models that deliver impactful change and ensure a sustainable and resilient future in Barbados.”

Our Investment Associate, Celso Catan, had the privilege of participating at the 17th CITI-ISO-Datagro New York Sugar & Ethanol Conference to discuss the vision of financial markets regarding the role of biofuels in the energy transition. During the panel discussion, he emphasized the monumental agreement by 200 countries at COP28 in the UAE to phase out fossil fuels and triple renewable energy capacity by 2030. This ambitious goal requires a $9 trillion annual investment, yet only $1.2 trillion was invested in the sector last year, underscoring the scale of the challenge. As even wealthy nations struggle to meet these investment targets, the challenge is even more pronounced for emerging markets and developing countries. Electrification alone will not suffice. Biofuels, such as ethanol, play a crucial role in achieving these targets due to their proven, cost-effective, and readily available technology that doesn’t demand groundbreaking infrastructure investments—especially as the industry advances in land and water resources efficiency.
