Rural Americans encounter significant obstacles to accessing healthcare, particularly as they contend with higher incidences of chronic conditions like heart disease. Undetected and untreated heart failure leads to significant mortality and adds over $200 billion to annual healthcare costs. High costs, long timelines, and inconvenience in heart disease testing hinder early detection, particularly for the 61 million rural Americans who may face months-long waits and extensive travel for cardiologist appointments. Fortunately, the combination of AI and advanced remote monitoring technology is enabling?rural residents and their care teams to use hospital-grade cardiac diagnostics and monitoring tools from the comfort of their homes, significantly reducing costs compared to hospital or cardiologist office tests. Peerbridge Health President & CEO Chris Darland explores how early detection of heart failure can save lives and alleviate anxiety for millions of patients and their families in this Population Health Learning Network article: ? https://bit.ly/4eJvg0N I #CardiacCare #HeartFailure #RemotePatientMonitoring #PopulationHealth HMP Global

Cardiovascular deaths are rising among rural Americans, particularly those under 65, a trend that began after the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new study presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions. Rural residents continue to face higher cardiovascular death rates than urban populations, underscoring a "crisis" in rural cardiovascular health. Lead author Dr. Lucas X. Marinacci emphasized the need to address rural poverty, expand health insurance, and promote awareness around preventing and managing obesity and diabetes, which are key drivers of cardiovascular disease. https://lnkd.in/g7gVTRRb I #CardiovascularDisease #RuralHealthcare #HeartFailure #HeartDisease

In September, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention unveiled its Rural Public Health Strategic Plan, a five-year roadmap to tackle health disparities in rural communities through collaboration with federal agencies and key stakeholders. Centered on four priorities — engaging community health partners, strengthening public health infrastructure, advancing rural health science, and enhancing preparedness and response — the plan reflects a strategic and actionable approach. Developed by the CDC’s Office of Rural Health, established during the COVID-19 pandemic to address rural health inequities, the plan targets pressing issues such as obesity, chronic illnesses, and substance abuse. While not region-specific, it lays the groundwork for a detailed action plan, signaling the start of a sustained effort to close rural-urban health gaps through updated rural classification methods and partnerships with local health agencies and research centers. https://lnkd.in/gjDaYheu I #RuralHealthcare #RuralHospital #HealthEquity #SDOH #ChronicDiseaseManagementment The Daily Yonder

The WHO and FDA are promoting the integration of digital health innovations (DHIs) into healthcare systems to improve care accessibility and outcomes, especially for cardiovascular disease (CVD). ? DHIs, including wearables, mobile applications, and AI, can support lifestyle modifications and preventive therapies essential to CVD management. AI applications, from assisted to autonomous, are reshaping diagnosis and risk assessment, with over 800 FDA-approved algorithms, many focused on CVD. ? This Nature Portfolio narrative review provides clinicians with insights into applying DHI and AI in clinical care pathways for CVD prevention, highlighting cases such as AI for coronary artery calcium detection, mobile apps to enhance patient adherence, and large language models for continuous patient communication. ? https://lnkd.in/daQ9-qyi I #DigitalHealth #RemotePatientMonitoirng #CardiovascularDisease #ChronicDiseaseManagement #ArtificialIntelligence

Effective January 2026, the American Medical Association (AMA) will remove the requirement that patients submit 16 days of data each month for providers to bill remote physiologic monitoring (RPM) codes, a policy that many providers found burdensome. ? Until now, this 16-day threshold has been essential for RPM billing under certain CPT codes, but providers have argued that fewer data points can suffice for effective care, especially when daily monitoring isn’t necessary. The change comes amid a recent Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS OIG) report that raised concerns about potential fraud in RPM billing, questioning if RPM codes were billed in alignment with clinical needs. ? Although CMS recently clarified that some RPM codes do not require the 16-day data threshold, the OIG's report highlighted potential misuse and found that some patients did not receive all three components of monitoring as intended. This change may enable more accurate assessments of RPM effectiveness and billing practices. ? https://lnkd.in/gN2pR5WN I #RemotePatientMonitoring #VirtualCare #DigitalHealth #ArtificialIntelligence Fierce Healthcare

A new analysis from the Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI) reveals that digital health tools for hypertension are most effective when they include medication management features, such as virtual care links that connect patients with care teams for real-time adjustments. ? Devices that only transmit data or focus on behavior change lack a clinically meaningful impact, highlighting a key issue in remote patient monitoring (RPM): data needs to be actionable. ? With 120 million Americans affected by hypertension—and only 27 million managing it effectively—access to digital tools can improve control rates quickly, potentially saving lives and reducing long-term healthcare costs. ? https://lnkd.in/etmrKZc4 I #RemotePatientMonitoring #VirtualCare #DigitalHealth #HeartDisease #Hypertension HealthLeaders

A recent report from the Heart Failure Society of America indicates that nearly 6.7 million Americans over 20 currently live with heart failure, a figure projected to reach 8.7 million by 2030 and 11.4 million by 2050. ? Younger patients and underserved racial and ethnic groups are seeing rising mortality rates, highlighting systemic barriers to timely, appropriate care. Report chair Dr. Biykem Bozkurt emphasized the need for improved access, proper guideline-directed treatments, and a focus on addressing social determinants of health to mitigate these trends. ? https://lnkd.in/e3t8jPVn I #HeartFailure #CardiovascularDisease #HealthEquity #HeartDisease Cardiovascular Business

The 2025 Employer Health Care Strategy Survey delves into how employers are addressing rising healthcare costs and navigating key benefit strategy considerations for the short and long term. ? As employers face inflation in healthcare, a growing burden of chronic conditions, and demand for innovative but costly treatments, they are balancing multiple priorities. This survey examines strategies aimed at lowering costs, improving health outcomes, and enhancing the employee experience. ? Speaking with Answers Media Network, Peerbridge CEO Chris Darland highlighted why many of these costs have shifted to employees, leading some to delay necessary care—even for serious conditions like heart failure. With 80% of cases first diagnosed in emergency rooms, delayed treatment is worsening outcomes and increasing expenses. Shifting to early detection and prevention is crucial to reversing this trend. ?
