Nearly 50% of U.S. rural hospitals are in the red as reduced reimbursements, dwindling access to care, and deteriorating population health strain rural healthcare systems, new research from The Chartis Center for Rural Health reveals.? ? As rural hospitals close, communities are left without access to much-needed services, leading to the creation of care deserts—areas with significant shortages of healthcare professionals, forcing people to travel greater distances for care, even in emergencies.? ? At Peerbridge Health, we are committed to providing cost-effective remote monitoring solutions that enable timely and accurate diagnosis, improve patient outcomes, and help reduce the strain on healthcare systems.? ? https://lnkd.in/g5pFYmrv I #RuralHealthcare #RuralHospitals #HospitalClosures #RemotePatientMonitoring #VirtualCare #DigitalHealth?TechTarget News

A new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that medications for secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease are underused globally, with significant gaps in both high- and low-income countries, leaving many patients likely undertreated. ? The Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study reveals a decline in medication use over 12 years, particularly in high-income nations, while lower-income countries show inconsistent usage. Researchers emphasize that current strategies for secondary CVD prevention are failing to reach many patients across different economic levels. They suggest that additional approaches are needed to complement existing efforts and improve long-term cardiovascular disease management. ? A study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that cardiovascular deaths are rising faster among 25- to 64-year-olds and declining slower among people 65 and older in rural areas compared with those in urban areas. ? "A lot of the rural divide occurs because there are disparities that come down to differences in access to care," said John Catanzaro, chief of the cardiology division at East Carolina Health Medical Center. ? While heart disease is rising in rural areas, experts like Catanzaro stress that prioritizing health is possible anywhere. Portion control, quitting smoking, and daily physical activity can all help. Getting outside, walking, and moving can lower calorie intake and reduce heart disease risk, no matter where you live. ? Heart failure deaths have been rising in the U.S. since 2012, driven by increasing rates of obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. ? According to The New York Times Company, while treatments for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction have advanced significantly, options for preserved ejection fraction remain limited. New drugs, including SGLT2 inhibitors and weight-loss medications, show promise but remain costly and inaccessible to many. Healthcare disparities, particularly among Black Americans and those in rural areas, further worsen outcomes, emphasizing the need for more equitable and affordable treatment options. ? With heart failure deaths continuing to rise—especially among younger patients and vulnerable populations—early detection is more critical than ever. AI-enabled remote monitoring technologies can help identify worsening symptoms sooner, enabling timely interventions that are not only more effective but also cost-effective, preventing costly hospitalizations and improving long-term outcomes. ? https://lnkd.in/gSwPUw3P I #HeartFailure #RemotePatientMonitoring #HealthEquity #HeartDisease
