Do you want peer support specialists to be paid a living wage? Take 5 min to submit a comment! The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is asking for public comments on updates to the SOC system that will take effect in 2028. You can help by submitting a comment to request a new job classification for Peer Support Specialists. Your input is crucial because these updates only happen every 10 years. Recognizing peer support workers through the SOC system would lead to greater recognition of peer specialists nationally, define the roles and tasks carried out by peer specialists, identify how many peer specialists are serving and in what settings they serve, and provide information on the wages they are being paid. https://lnkd.in/geP8-5Bk

?? Exciting News in Healthcare! ?? Medicare has taken a monumental step forward by including peer support services in its coverage. This means certified peer specialists are now recognized for their invaluable role in supporting individuals living with a mental health or substance use condition. Why is this important? ?? Person-Centered Care: It marks a shift towards more personalized, care, prioritizing the individual's goals, needs, and experiences. Empowerment: Individuals gain enhanced support in navigating their healthcare journey, driven by peers who share their lived experiences. Community & Support: This change broadens access to essential social determinants of health (SDOH) supports, strengthening support networks. Advocacy: It underscores the importance of the individual's expertise in knowing what they want and need and equipping individuals to self-advocate.
