Many pediatric cancer survivors are inspired to pursue careers in the medical field. Their personal experiences with illness and treatment often motivate them to help others facing similar challenges, and this is why we are steadfast in our mission to shape brighter futures and improve the quality of life for those affected by pediatric cancer through our Survivor Scholarship. Take Survivor Scholarship awardee Parker, for example! Since 2011, he has faced immense challenges, undergoing 19 surgeries - including 14 on his brain - two years of chemotherapy, and more than 50 brain MRIs. Yet, through it all, his time in the hospital ignited a deep passion for helping others. Currently, he is on the Pre-Physician Assistant track at UCLA and turning his experience into purpose, stating, “I can’t see myself working anywhere but the healthcare industry." "As a future electrical engineer, I aspire to work and collaborate on a team of innovators, persevering through challenges with unyielding determination. A crucial reason why I developed this desire was because of the experiences I overcame at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, fighting leukemia and undergoing chemotherapy for over three years.
