Take a journey through the turbulent events of history that helped create a pathway to Amnon Weinstein's workshop, punctuating historical events with moving music written by Jewish composers. Located in the eastern third of the old Perfection Bakery site at Pearl Street and Maiden Lane in downtown Fort Wayne is Pearl Street Arts Center, Northeast Indiana’s new community arts and education destination, scheduled to open in the summer of 2024. Pearl Arts is the vision of local businessman and philanthropist Chuck Surack and a small group of committed volunteers who are creating a one-of-a-kind interactive community arts hub, and a new center for musical life in Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana.

On Monday, March 17, beginning at 5:30 pm, author and photographer Daniel Levin is joined by the Bennett String Ensemble for a moving and unique evening of music and conversation, at the Weatherhead Gallery, Mimi and Ian Rolland Art Center, University of Saint Francis. Musical selections by Jewish and Holocaust era composers performed on the Violins of Hope are followed by a talk by Daniel Levin who will discuss his exhibition, Violins and Hope | From the Holocaust to Symphony Hall. On Saturday, March 15, beginning at 7:30 pm, Pearl Arts will screen the moving documentary Saul and Ruby’s Holocaust Survivor Band, a bittersweet and compelling story about finding purpose in life at any age. Afterward, the film’s director Tod Lending will discuss his new book, The Umbrella Maker’s Son, a powerful, heart-wrenching novel that follows a young Polish Jew through his incredible journey to escape the Nazis. On Thursday, March 13 at 6:30 pm, Pearl Arts presents The Ariel String Quartet with the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir. The program opens with the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir joining the Ariel Quartet in a performance of Srul Irving Glick’s Psalm Trilogy. Next the Ariel performs Erwin Schulhoff's String Quartet No. 1 in D Major, concluding the program with Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 8 in E minor, Op. 59, No. 2, Razumovsky.
