Dare and Do. The legacy of a Navy leader who served our nation while pioneering computer science in the technology field. #DYK who USS Hopper (DDG 70) is named after? This Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer was named in honor of Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper. During WWII, with a background in mathematics and an innovative spirit, Hopper joined the U.S. Navy Reserve. From teaching as a mathematics professor, to designing a compiler and co-inventing a computer language in the tech field, she went on to standardizing computer systems and programs throughout the Navy, thus revolutionizing naval operations. USS Hopper (DDG-70) is one of the most powerful warships ever put to sea, and fittingly, as one of the Navy's most advanced and capable assets, it carries on the fighting spirit of its namesake - pushing the limits and ready to serve our country at sea. Hopper is currently undergoing maintenance and modernization at PHNSY & IMF to keep her #FitToFight. It’s all about Lego robots for #STEMSaturday! ?? Our #PHNSYSTEM Outreach team’s engineers visited Waimānalo Elementary and Intermediate School and conducted a robotics workshop. The workshop consisted of four sessions where students got to explore their interests in #STEM by participating in building Lego based robotic cars, programming, and having them follow a path or “complete routes.” This STEM & Coding class of 8th graders had fun showing off their builds in action! ?? Our #PHNSYIMF outreach team is a great example of giving back. They’re sharing skills, education, and expertise — Who knows? The next great engineer might be right here in our community! ?? #NavalSTEM | #LAULIMAnavy

Great leaders know that understanding people drives performance and readiness. In Leadership Engagement & Aloha Development, participants took a deep dive into their own personalities and those of their peers by taking the Four Lenses assessment—gaining insights into how they think, communicate, and L.E.A.D. When leaders are equipped with the tools to connect, everyone succeeds! #FoundationFriday | #NoKaOiWorkforce ?? https://lnkd.in/eENdMF2Z

History repeats itself, with a modern twist! #ThrowbackThursday: Even during wartime, our shipyard understood the importance of emergency response. Navy Yard employees trained in safety, with some cross-training to use fire hoses. Fast forward to our modern-day #NoKaOiWorkforce recreating this iconic historical photo on the waterfront. A lot has changed, but PHNSY & IMF remains focused on safety, driven by our mission, and fueled by the dedication of our people! Recreated ?? (2024): Dave Amodo Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)
