It's a random Monday in April 2012. Matt and I were given 5 days to come up with $70 million, or Penson, the clearing firm supporting our business OptionsHouse, would go under and take OH with it. Necessity is the mother of invention. It’s certainly the mother of how we got into the clearing and custody business. And how that business has transformed whole sectors of the finance industry.?The company we built out of those tense early moments grew into Apex Fintech Solutions, the fintech of fintechs…the first to offer real-time account opening, fractional trading, and a whole host of innovations that enabled our clients to become giants of the retail investing revolution themselves. Today, Apex has more than $140B in assets under custody. This experience reshaped our identity and underscored the essential qualities that drive the success of all PEAK6 companies. Many people who were part of PEAK6 on that Monday in 2012 are still with us, and countless others who have joined along the way have stayed for the long haul, transforming the PEAK6 family and the industries we now lead. Not least William Capuzzi, the Apex CEO who has worked so hard to drive the future we now live in. It is a testament to the power of collective effort and resilience. We are immensely proud of everyone. It’s always the people.
