It has been our experience that Toe Walking issues are often an occipital subluxation issue, either bilateral occipital compression or occipital extension can contribute to the issue. This subluxation can affect the visual proprioceptive righting reflex and how the child focuses on the horizon. drmartinrosen.com

When looking at issues concerning the relationship between the upper cervical spine and occiput there are some key areas that will need to be addressed when trying to support patients with these issues. . These are some of the challenges your patients may present: Eye-Head Coordination - chronic head tilt, forward head posture Balance issues Walking - especially toe walking and foot inversion or eversion Gaze - unequal eye tracking or nystagmoid movement This area is also the main area for processing and disseminating information to the rest of the brain, so chronic fight or flight states, retained primal reflexes and processing larger amounts of information or stimuli can also be a sign of occipital/atlas stress. Lastly, we cannot forget that the vagus nerve exits the jugular foramen (between the occiput and temporal bone) and passes over the anterior transverse process of atlas, so distortions here can either traction or compress the vagus and the other 2 nerves that travel with it, the glossopharyngeal and spinal accessory. drmartinrosen.com

SOT? utilizes a variety of chiropractic adjustment protocols focusing on gentle, precise adjustments to realign the spine, pelvis, and cranium. Besides hands-on adjusting protocols SOT? employs specific techniques such as blocking (using wedge-shaped blocks under the pelvis) and soft tissue release to correct misalignments. This approach helps restore balance and function without causing additional strain or discomfort. drmartinrosen.com

One of the best ways to sensitize your nervous system to the cranial movement is to practice feeling as many craniums as possible. There are four types of movement we evaluate in the cranium - primary respiratory (CSF), secondary respiratory (diaphragmatic) dural meningeal tension, and sutural mobility. Try to feel with your hands and attempt to magnify the very small amount of actual cranial motion available for palpation, as if the skull were expanding and contracting laterally to a very slow rhythm, unrelated to cardiovascular or respiratory function, generally 8-12 cycles per minute. A faint wave-like pushing is what might be noted, and as this is developed, attempts can be made to feel for symmetry from side to side and front to the back of the cranium. drmartinrosen.com
