    ?? How clean is your (HR) house? Wait! Stop scrolling! I promise this is interesting! We know, this stuff is probably not at the top of your priority list. You're trying to find Product Market Fit. You're sifting through hundreds of applicants for a hard-to-hire role. You're an HR team of one (enough said - happy #HR Professionals Day, btw). Things that are common for early-stage companies that might get in your way: ?? having friends and families work for free with no employment agreements (promising future equity doesn't count) ?? calling workers "contractors" or "freelancers" but treating them like employees (there are literal laws about this) ? not filling out I9's because it's annoying to ask people to verify their identity (annoying, but legally required) ?? skipping performance reviews and career conversations (no, you're not too small to document performance) ?? giving discretionary "performance-based" bonuses (hello, bias and inequity) ?? misclassifying employees because ugh timesheets, can't everyone just be exempt? (no) You know how it's hard to clean up your house when you've let the mess grow for weeks? Compliance is expensive, especially when the mess has built up over time. Inefficient processes will kick your ass if you haven't built to scale sustainable. Instead of waiting until you're fundraising, working towards acquisition, or facing a lawsuit, get help now while things aren't on fire. ??     And just like that, the Fall 2024 #ScalingHR cohort has come to an end. Week ?? took us to the top of the mountain, with a lesson from Rita Ramakrishnan PCC, ACTC about how to think like a coach when working with leadership, and from Melanie Naranjo on the delicate balance of managing up while being a partner, not a parent. Truly a fabulous and uplifting way to end the program. We are so proud of our newly-minted alumni who invested in themselves and their career development over this last 10 weeks. We have seen the changes in you, and we'd bet your companies are already benefitting from the new skills and perspectives you've gained, so we hope you're proud of yourselves too.     I’m feeling incredibly proud as I wrap up the PeakHR Scaling HR program ??—one of the most impactful experiences I’ve ever had in my career to date. What Peak HR has created is truly special. Throughout the 10-week program, we had the privilege of learning from some of the most empathetic, dedicated, and inspiring leaders in our field. I gained valuable insights on advocating for others, maintaining an open mindset, and developing actionable new skills. They also emphasized the importance of taking care of ourselves, reminding us that the work we do is deep and powerful, and it can be easy to take it all on and forget about our own well-being. One of my absolute favorite parts of the program was our weekly mastermind sessions. There’s nothing quite like strategizing and problem-solving with a group of like-minded HR professionals. I will genuinely miss those discussions and the energy they brought each week. Thank you, Ella Wright, and the Campfire team as well ?? Though it’s bittersweet to see this chapter come to a close, I’m excited to carry forward the knowledge, skills, and connections I’ve gained for years to come. Thank you to the incredible Peak HR team Catalina Colman, ?? Kim Rohrer (she/her), Morgan Williams, and my fellow cohort members.     Last week, we officially wrapped up the 10-week #ScalingHR Fall cohort with PeakHR—and what an incredible 10 weeks it was! A special thank you to ?? Kim Rohrer (she/her), Morgan Williams, and Catalina Colman for creating such a wonderful space for HR leaders to come together and learn with and from one another. I am beyond thankful that I had the opportunity to participate. Additionally, thank you to all the cohort members for allowing me to learn from you, share my perspectives, and operate in a space where I felt seen and supported ?? Here are a few of the ???????? inspiring quotes from some of the fabulous session leaders: ?“You are here because of the work you’ve done. If you don’t believe in yourself, how do you expect others to?” - Anessa Fike ?On internal comms and employer branding: “What you promise EXTERNALLY should be what your employees experience INTERNALLY.” - Cassidy Edwards ?“Under-promise and over-deliver. Be aware of what you don’t know, and account for it in your timelines.” - Funmi Oludaiye ?“You can only solve one big problem at a time—make it the one that really matters to the company.     I’m happy to share that I’ve obtained a new certification: ScalingHR from PeakHR! It has been an incredible 10 weeks filled with amazing speakers and content. From tips on personal branding, and creating a content system, to coaching styles and techniques -- if you're in HR and considering entrepreneurship, I wholeheartedly recommend PeakHR as a starting point.
