This Friday, February 14th, one of our collaborator on the Peace Professionalism Project, Louis Monroy Santander, will be speaking at an insightful online event hosted by the Minority Issues Research Institute of Slovakia. Louis will be sharing critical perspectives on the peace and conflict landscape in Colombia, with a particular focus on violence in the Pacific Region. Given his expertise in conflict studies and peacebuilding, this promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking discussion. ?? ?? FIRST 2025 EVENT BY THE PEACE PROFESSIONALISM PROJECT I am very happy to announce our first peace dialogue for 2025 in the context of the research undertaken by the Peace Professionalism Project. On Wednesday, January 8th, 2025 we will be talking to Rosy Castro, a peacebuilder and Afro-Colombian rights activist in Tumaco, Southwestern Colombia. Rosy has dedicated her life to working with youth affected by violence from armed groups in the region and will share her experience of how using fashion, textiles and art has become a channel for fighting against the recruitment of children and young people by criminal bands and illegal armed organizations in the region. Her dialogue will focus on her experience building the organization "Perla del Pacífico" (The Pacific Pearl) which began as a fashion project that permitted discussions about gender, inclusion and empowerment of women through beauty and fashion but quickly moved into more broader experiences of peacebuilding through art and culture, which includes the recovery of afro-Colombian communities traditions as a space for resilience, resistance and peace. I look forward to facilitating this conversation, with the daunting task of simultaneous translation from Spanish to English ?? ?? Make sure to save the date in your calendars and join us on zoom: https://lnkd.in/eKsB32d8 Meeting ID: 859 9433 3372 Passcode: 2tb&ZX
