Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) is at the center of California’s response to supporting survivors of violence and abuse. Drastic cuts to this Federal funding source will impact programs serving survivors of child abuse, elder abuse, human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault, and more. VOCA funded organizations, like ours, provide vital services directly to survivors such as counseling, housing services, crisis response, and legal services, along with a range of other responses to address trauma and support their healing. Survivors who are served by VOCA funded agencies and programs will be deeply impacted by these cuts. As a result of reduced funding, these organizations including POV, may need to lay off staff, scale back on services specific to historically marginalized and underserved communities, increase wait time to connect survivors to valuable services, and more. The impacts of these cuts will fall hardest on smaller programs, communities that have been historically underserved, and rural programs. For survivors, this will reduce their ability to access the support and healing they need and deserve. Governor Newsom will be asked to approve a budget that has $103million of funding to close this gap for 2024/2025. We need your help to show the Governor that the community supports and needs this crucial funding. Please show your support for survivors by calling Governor Newsom today and urging him to approve this funding and share this post! Call Governor Newsom's Office Directly at (916) 445-2841?!

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month #SAAM. Why is it important to continue to bring awareness to issues regarding sexual violence in all it's forms? Every 68 seconds another American is sexually assaulted. 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime (14.8% completed, 2.8% attempted). About 3% of American men—or 1 in 33—have experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. Statistics provided by RAINN To learn more about the services and programs that Peace Over Violence provides to survivors of sexual assault and the work we do with youth throughout Los Angeles County to educate on healthy interpersonal relationships visit peaceoverviolence.org
