505,000. As of today, that's the combined mileage across Peace's current fleet of vehicles. At Peace, our vehicles truly do go the distance. Beyond transporting kids to school and after-school programming, our vehicles have also "fueled" college visits, trips to national parks — and even the transportation of a 100-pound fish tank. This year's Thanks for Giving will be supporting Peace's transportation — specifically, recognizing the critical role Peace's vehicles play in our wraparound support of kids and families. While tickets for Thanks for Giving are selling fast, there's still some spots available! Consider joining us on Nov 7th if you can! https://lnkd.in/egfWPuaq

We are always honored when we get to host events for our community members and this next event is for a really valuable partner in the Ann Arbor and Washtenaw Communities, Peace Neighborhood Center . Their annual fundraiser 'Thanks for Giving' is less than a month away on November 7th and will be hosted at?Venue. Their goal this year is to raise funds to replace some of Peace's aging transportation vehicles — and to celebrate all the ways the Peace's fleet of vehicles help them keep the wheels turning across their programs and services. They are expecting another sold-out event this year, but still have tickets available here:?https://lnkd.in/egfWPuaq Check out the QR code in the photo to learn more about their event!

Peace Neighborhood Center is very proud to announce that Youth Programs Director Raven Vawters recently graduated from University of Michigan's School of Social Work with her Master's of Social Work degree. Raven has been a part of the Peace Family since she was a kid in programs, and we are overjoyed to see her take this next step of her professional career. Raven has been a member of the Peace staff since 2017, demonstrating leadership and taking on more responsibility over time. In her current role as Youth Programs Director, Raven oversees all of the many moving parts of Peace's after school and summer youth programs. Reflecting on this milestone, Raven looks forward to using all she has learned in her studies to providing even greater depth to services Peace offers to families: "For me Peace means home and family...After working at Peace for so many years I have gained so much invaluable knowledge about providing support to children and families. By obtaining my MSW I want to be able to continue to expand the services that I am able to provide...I did it not only for myself but my son, and all the Peace kids and parents out there." Congratulations, Raven! We could not be more proud!

We are pleased to share this photo of some of the members of the HUB Coalition who had the opportunity to tour the site of the Peace HUB Community Resource Center this week. As we continue the construction phase of the building, we are just as excited to see this innovative model of service delivery come together between all of our HUB Partner Agencies as we together work to focus our efforts in helping families, children and individuals in Eastern Washtenaw County. Looking forward to the grand opening this Fall and watching this group get to its collective work! From left to right: Tania James (ED of Friends In Deed); Markell Miller (Director of Community Food Programs, Food Gatherers); Rev. Anna Taylor-McCants (ED FedUp Ministries); DiOnna Jordan and Bonnie Billups (Peace Neighborhood Center); Sarah Thornburg (HUB Coalition Strategic Support Facilitator); LaKeisha Williams (Peace HUB Community Resource Center Manager); Geraldine Powell (Community Family Life Center), and Norm, (President of the Housing Association at Wingate Condominiums, HUB's Neighbor) #PeaceHUB

The start to this summer has been fast and furious at Peace! It began the day after school let out with a Transformational Road Trip for a group of middle and high school boys to Cocoa Beach and the Kennedy Space Center. Logging 2,503 miles on the van, it was an incredible journey full of discovery and new experiences, learning about space travel and jumping into the ocean. After that adventure, Peace launched right into the start of our Summer Youth Camps on June 24th. This year's theme is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). In addition to special clubs like the one featured on our latest Peace podcast, campers will enjoy field trips to regional parks and local museums, and creative learning experiences with a focus on STEAM education with community partners throughout the region all summer. As is tradition, the elementary youth just enjoyed their first Tuesday trip to Silver Lake this week. We hope all of you had a wonderful Fourth of July and are off to the same great start to summer that we are here at Peace!

Thank you to Huron High School student Adit Vuppala, one of our volunteer tutors for the past three years who recently stopped by Peace to donate fifty percent of what he earned as an assistant teacher at U of M's Math Corps camp. We truly appreciate his support! "I would like to express my gratitude to Peace Neighborhood as I have learned many things teaching the young kids over there...when given a little encouragement [they will] do wonders! I strongly believe that actions speak louder than words, so I would like to give [this gift] to the world where kindness, empathy and integrity thrive." - Adit
