Save the date!?? Giving Tuesday is a day devoted to charitable giving that occurs the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This year Giving Tuesday falls on December 3rd. This is a day when everyone, including YOU, can make a difference in your community and with the causes that are important to you. MUST READ story of everyday heroism ?? https://wapo.st/40Y4nSm As Peace For DC recently noted- Just as you would use CPR if someone had a heart attack or the Heimlich maneuver if someone was choking, #StopTheBleed is a first aid method that includes using gauze and tourniquets to apply if someone is at risk of bleeding out from a gunshot or stab wound. DC’s Community Violence Intervention professionals learn these skills at the #DCPeaceAcademy, and then they are able to help should they be the first on the scene before emergency medical services arrive. Learn more about the stop the bleed at www.stopthebleed.org

#DCPeaceAcademy students & alumni are the backbone of DC’s Public Safety Ecosystem. They have a unique skill set that allows them to build trust with those who are most likely to be involved in gun violence, helping them put their guns down & break free from cycles of trauma & violence. At the Peace Academy, we provide these #Peacemakers with classes in a wide variety of topics including Mediations, Conflict Resolution, Restorative Justice, Roca’s Rewire CBT, Stop The Bleed, & much more. We also provide our students with free Therapists & Life Coaches, & create a safe space for healing & collaboration. Learn more & support our work: https://lnkd.in/eTjzv5we

Dear supporters, partners, and Peacemakers everywhere, Our work is about people, not politics. But as this week comes to a close, we must acknowledge that our work faces uncertainty and potential challenges. No matter who is in the White House, our commitment to the work being done on the streets of DC remains unwavering. Our efforts- providing opportunity and addressing trauma, helping the most vulnerable and marginalized among us, and empowering individuals to change their behaviors and transform their lives- have never been more important. We stand with DC and we hope that you will stand with us. While you may be hearing how much crime is down versus last year, let’s not forget that homicides are up 87 percent year to date in 2024 versus 10 years ago in 2014. We can’t accept that as a city. It’s going to take all of us to turn this around. In a civil society everyone has a responsibility to make our neighborhoods safer and ensure every child has the opportunity to not just survive but thrive. Reducing violence and making every neighborhood safe requires every tool in the toolbox, including the essential, proven strategy of community violence intervention, the public health approach to gun violence reduction, and the critical need for survivor support services. In cities where the homicide rate has turned around and are among the lowest in the country, philanthropy and nonprofit organizations dedicated to reducing violence have had important roles helping lead the way. At this moment, shifting the leadership and power to privately funded organizations is the only way we can turn this crisis around. Creating safer neighborhoods is a catalyst for building economic mobility, reducing housing and food insecurity, and improving educational outcomes. Let’s scale our work and approach making peace with the same intensity that we approach housing, hunger, and education. Our focus and dedication are unwavering - we need to do everything we can to dramatically reduce DC’s homicide rate and save every life we can. No matter what, we will never give up. Thank you for standing with us and with Peace For DC. Sincerely, Marcus T. Ellis Executive Director, Peace For DC www.peacefordc.org/donate

Healing trauma and breaking the cycle of violence is central to everything that Peace For DC does. Through Cognitive Behavioral Interventions, like Roca, Inc.’s Rewire CBT, we empower individuals with skills to ease their PTSD and other symptoms of past trauma, as well as skills to build resiliency and protection in the face of future trauma. Read more about our work healing trauma, as well as recent news and events here: https://lnkd.in/eRRSznB6 Cognitive Behavioral Interventions have been proven as the gold standard and an essential element in addressing trauma and helping to reduce gun violence in cities across the country. That’s why Peace For DC is urgently working to raise funds to expand and scale these efforts. Support our work to heal trauma and interrupt cycles of violence with a donate today: peacefordc.org/donate
