Our HEAL DC participants have needs big and small. One way you can make an impact directly is by purchasing toiletries and other essential items from our Amazon Wish List: https://lnkd.in/eSb53mJD. By ensuring these young men have essentials- like soap, deodorant, and diapers for their babies- and that their other basic needs are met, we help them to develop needed confidence and stability, which makes it possible to start addressing complex issues and working towards bigger goals. MUST READ: If you are not familiar with the important topic of cognitive behavioral interventions #CBIs, this newly released white paper from the Center for the Study and Practice of Violence Reduction is highly recommended reading. And kudos to Peace For DC’s Antoine Gatlin on his quote and photo in the white paper. #CBIs are at the heart of all of Peace For DC’s work. Antoine is trained in ROCA’s Rewire Cognitive Behavioral Theory #CBT and teaches these methods at the #DCPeaceAcademy, at our newer #HEALDC program, and through our community partnerships. https://lnkd.in/encNGV5e

The Trace recently did a piece about Chicagoans learning the life-saving skills of #StopTheBleed, and in DC, Peace For DC is proud to work with medical professionals from Howard University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center to teach these same skills in the community, through our many partnerships, and at the #DCPeaceacademy. Every second counts and this skills can make all the difference in the minutes before emergency medical services arrive. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e8yfxskE

Thank you too, Jess Arnold with WUSA9 for joining class today at #DCPeaceAcademy to talk about what is like to be a reporter and to do interviews. You helped our city’s #Peacemakers understand the perspective of someone with your job and gave them insights into how they can feel confident when they are asked to do an interview. Thank you! #KnowledgeIsPower

March is Women's History Month, and Peace For DC wants to take this opportunity to lift up and give virtual flowers to the many women in the violence intervention and prevention space. These s-heroes work tirelessly to build peace in their communities. It is not always easy in a field that is majority-male, but we see you, we respect you, and we salute you! ??
