Today is World Children’s Day—a celebration of the potential, resilience, and creativity of children everywhere. ???? In South Africa, Peace Corps Volunteers and local teachers are teaming up to support young learners to gain valuable skills that can open doors to new opportunities like English language education. 90% of the world's young people are in developing countries. For those countries that have invited the Peace Corps and identified youth empowerment as a top priority, our Volunteers are engaging in lessons, after-school clubs, and one-on-one mentoring so children and young people gain the confidence to lead in their local communities in their own, unique ways. International education is all about expanding horizons, making connections, and establishing mutual understanding between communities. ???? One way we do that here at the Peace Corps is through our Virtual Service Pilot, where educational organizations from more than 40 countries have partnered with us to work on locally-identified projects, no matter the distance. Take a look at the amazing work being done in Mongolia, Kyrgyz Republic, and Ukraine where we're supporting e-learning opportunities for students. In Samoa, communities have identified climate resilience as a top priority. For Rosalia, she shares: “If we neglect addressing this issue today, we risk losing our people, land, and environment." Rosalia is a youth champion of our Blue Pacific Youth Initiative, with support from USAID. By connecting with young leaders across the Pacific and partnering with Peace Corps Volunteers, she's gained new skills, perspectives, and the confidence to lead climate resilience projects at home. Now, she's working on coral restoration, designing action plans, and advancing climate-smart income generation. She's also sharing what she's learning with other youth champions and communities so we're all working together towards climate resilience.
