The total U.S. William Blair/PCO Bookkeepers & M&A Specialists #PestIndex increased 9 percent year-over-year in January 2025, decelerating from December’s 11 percent result. ?? The January result is slightly below the long-term average pest index growth rate of 10 percent. ?? Commentary from several regional operators indicates weather may have negatively affected January performance in some markets. Link to the full report is in the comments below.

?? While it never hurts to have the luck of the Irish on your side in business, it's better to run your pest control company by the numbers. These four KPIs are a great place to start: 1. Gross Margin 2. Annual Cashflow to Ownership 3. Recurring to Non-Recurring Revenue 4. Annual Revenue Growth Let us know how you're doing on these metrics, and see the comments for a link to an article by our own Dan Gordon detailing them. ??

??? ???? ?? Dan Gordon and Joe Brown are proud to represent PCOB in Washington D.C. this week for the National Pest Management Association's Legislative Day to network with clients and friends, learn about key issues and support the industry during appointments on the Hill. For business owners, #NPMALegislativeDay is one of the best events of the year. It's a fantastic opportunity to make an impact for your company and the industry as a whole. If you've never attended, consider adding it to your travel schedule next year. ??: Brett Lieberman

?? Have you experienced any of these red flags?
4 signs it’s time for a new pest control accountant… 1. You get a large, unexpected tax bill. ?? At PCO Bookkeepers & M&A Specialists, we pick up several clients every year after tax season because their accountant called them on April 14 and said, ‘You have to come up with all this money and it’s due tomorrow.” A good accountant will do projections in late summer or early fall to review your company’s financials and forecast what your tax liability will be by the end of the year. You should never be surprised. 2. You get audited and your accountant throws you under the bus. ?? An experienced CPA will navigate an audit with confidence. The most important thing is having your arguments and documents organized and prepared. Like a defense attorney, your accountant should be working to minimize any audit adjustments – right, wrong or indifferent. He or she should be your advocate who’s looking for solutions. 3. Your accountant can’t tell you whether your numbers are good or not. ?? An accountant who understands the nuances of your business and how they compare to industry norms is a competitive advantage you can’t overlook. You want a firm that provides management reporting and advising beyond the standard P&L and balance sheet. The local accountant used to be your only option, but that’s no longer the case. Today, your accountant should be industry-specific. 4. You don’t hear from your accountant often. ?? Your accountant should be communicating with you several times a year at a minimum or as often as once a month, ideally. Being in regular contact should allow you to be proactive with tax planning and decision making. If your accountant — or any vendor or partner — doesn’t return your messages on time, it raises questions about whether they are well-equipped to serve your business. Do any of the above sound familiar to you? Let’s talk: https://lnkd.in/eAdGk-UP
