Students from the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Prestressed Concrete Design Graduate course, led by Professor Sergio Brena, gained invaluable real-world insights during an exclusive tour of?Unistress facilities. The experience offered these future engineers a unique view into the intricacies of precast, prestressed concrete production. ?? The hands-on exposure provided students with a deeper understanding of design applications, manufacturing techniques, and quality control measures—knowledge that’s critical for translating theory into practice. ----- UMass Amherst Students Visit Local MassDOT Bridge Project? ?? UMass engineering students recently had the unique opportunity to visit the South Street Bridge project in?Montague, MA. During the visit, they observed the placement of NEXT beams produced by?J.P. Carrara & Sons, Inc. The contractor, Tully Construction provided the students an up-close look at the beam placement process. This hands-on experience allowed students to see real-world applications of their studies, learn about the advantages of NEXT beams in bridge construction, and gain insight into the teamwork required on-site.
