Every 5 years, governments in our region prepare a regional Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice that sets community goals for improving housing opportunity in Greater Des Moines. The plan sets local goals to improve housing opportunity and access for all people. ?? The region's new draft plan is available to read and comment on in Des Moines until October 27. You can send a comment to [email protected]. ?? Des Moines City Council will hold a public hearing on the plan at the November 4 City Council meeting. ?? Des Moines, West Des Moines, and Polk County are the governments who create this plan. ?? It's informed by dozens of stakeholder meetings and almost 2000 community survey responses earlier this year. The Polk County Housing Trust Fund is now accepting applications for our FY2025 owner occupied repair program funding round as set forth in our FY2025 Housing Allocation Plan. ? Funds support programs o sustain housing affordability and viability while maintaining safe and environmentally friendly housing stock. ? Funds available in this round are $590,000 ? The deadline to apply is October 25, 2024 at 3pm central time. ? Additional details can be found in the funding announcement below or at pchtf.org/apply. ?? Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations and local governments. Individuals are not eligible to receive this funding directly. Last week the Trust Fund was pleased to help convene a gathering of Local Housing Trust Fund leaders - our peers and valued colleagues from communities cross Iowa - at the Iowa Finance Authority's Housing Iowa conference in Des Moines. The PCHTF team was proud to support another great year of progress from Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity at their Key Awards last night. We're fortunate that one of the nation's top Habitat affiliates is right here in Central Iowa making homeownership a reality for more of our neighbors every year.

The Trust Fund was honored to be included in a panel of housing program leaders hosted by the THE DES MOINES AREA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS at their Diversity Day lunch and learn today. Realtors? are leaders in solving housing challenges for their clients and we're proud to partner with local real estate leaders to solve housing challenges facing every person and family. Several board and committee volunteers joined PCHTF at HOME, Inc.'s Day of Service yesterday to build a fence outside a home in the King Irving neighborhood of City of Des Moines. Thank you to our HOME, Inc. colleagues and friends for organizing the opportunity! We're building stronger neighborhoods together - sometimes literally!

Our hearts are filled with gratitude that the Polk County Housing Trust Fund is the recipient of this year's Diversity Equity and Inclusion Workplace Excellence Award in the nonprofit category powered by the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce and presented by Chase. This award represents the work of so many people across our community who are working to secure safe, stable housing every person and family deserves. It represents our ongoing efforts to engage leadership across our board, staff, committees, and beyond who reflect our community and the needs, concerns, ideas and dreams local people share. We were proud to be joined by some of our friends and organizational partners who have contributed so much. The financial support part of the award will go toward our Navigating Housing Together fundraising campaign for housing stability in Greater Des Moines. One of the great things about being able to attend the Iowa Finance Authority Housing Iowa conference in Des Moines is seeing our colleagues from across the state. Today we had the privilege of hosting representatives of our fellow Housing Trust Funds for a roundtable discussion highlighting their great work all over the state. Each community has its own unique situation, but the needs both to develop more affordable housing and to repair older homes are common all over. Local housing funds are a critical way to bring resources to this important work. We also want to lift up the Johnson County Affordable Housing Coalition for partnering to make today’s gathering a success.
