ICYMI: The #bipartisan DRUG Act "tackles head-on the current perverse incentives that motivate a few dominant PBMs to exploit the drug pricing system for profit at the expense of patients by finally severing the connection between PBM compensation and the price of medicine in the private marketplace..." It’s time to make the Pharmacy Benefit Manager system work for us.
关于我们
The PBM Accountability Project brings together leaders and stakeholders across healthcare, labor, business, pharmacy, and consumer patient advocacy to help ensure that patients or our private and public sector health plans aren’t overpaying for the prescription medicines we need. Our organization is working to educate the public and advance solutions to help redirect prescription drug savings to very high PBM profits back to patients, employee health plans, and taxpayers.

"A new breed of?drug middlemen?are pushing an unusual cost-saving strategy that lets their employer clients tap a federal program meant for hospitals that serve the poor..." "Exactly how much of those rebates actually goes back to employers is in dispute, with some critics contending that?PBMs take more than their fair share..." More evidence comes to light: #PBMs are gaming a program meant for patients in need. Patients and even employers are losing out to games PBMs play. Congress can and must step in. https://lnkd.in/e-f5veZG

The Expansion of?340B: Good Intentions, Bad Outcomes for Patients…?Originally intended for a small number of safety-net providers, the?340B?program now includes over half of nonprofit hospitals in the US. With this massive expansion, have oversight and transparency kept pace? Are PBMs exploiting the system to the detriment of patients? #340B?#PBMReform #HealthcarePolicy?

"Not all rural America’s health challenges are easy to address, but this one is. Congress must act now to pass PBM reform that will reduce our prescription drug costs, respect the sanctity of the physician-patient relationship and keep our community pharmacies open for business." - National Grange President discusses how #PBMs impact rural communities...and how Congress can (and must) help now. #PBMreforms #healthcarepolicy #drugpricing https://lnkd.in/gUgDTntS

With bipartisan support, the Senate is working to get #PBM reforms that were unfortunately left out of the December package across the finish line. Congress: this is your chance to stand with patients, pharmacists, businesses, and all hardworking Americans — pass PBM reform NOW to lower our prescription drug costs. ICYMI: Read a letter from key stakeholders to Congress on these meaningful reforms here: https://lnkd.in/gWUrPDzq

CVS Health claims that lower contributions from the?340B?program hurt their bottom line. But why should a program meant to help patients in need be a profit center for PBMs? PBMs have been accused of diverting millions from the?340B?program through anticompetitive practices, adding costs and reducing patient care funding while they profit from inflated drug prices. It's time to ask: Should #PBMs be making money off a program intended for patients in need? Let's refocus on the patient, not #PBM revenue. https://lnkd.in/g96SR39Q?

ICYMI: Along with more than 80 advocates, we urged the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Health leaders to act on the progress lawmakers have made and finally pass meaningful #PBMreform. Congress cannot miss another chance to rein in these health insurance middlemen. https://lnkd.in/gW2uzcvt

Last week, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health held a hearing entitled, “An Examination of How Reining in PBMs Will Drive Competition and Lower Costs for Patients.” Members discussed the many ways PBMs are hurting their constituents. This week, Senators Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) re-introduced bipartisan legislation, the Prescription Pricing for the People Act (S.527) and Pharmacy Benefit Manager Transparency Act (S. 526), to help lower out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for Americans. “We appreciate Senator Grassley and Senator Cantwell’s unwavering leadership in addressing harmful PBM pricing practices...Now, early this year, it is more urgent than ever for Congress to make PBM reform a top priority and finally deliver the transparency and accountability that Americans deserve." #PBMreforms #DrugPricing https://lnkd.in/gJXx63BG
