I had a great time attending the BISNOW New York Conversions and Adaptive Reuse Conference. Great platform to listen in and get insights into current trends and challenges towards NYC Office to Residential conversions. Very insightful to hear the industry experts share their knowledge on financial logistics, lending market, NYC laws and amendments and Design and Construction methodologies for successful conversion and retrofit projects. Key takeaways – City of Yes is a big incentive along with 485-x and 467-m programs. The lending market is still challenging but is slowly progressing. TSQ, Financial district and Midtown 3rd avenue are desirable Office to residential conversion blocks. Last night we joyfully opened our doors to the Architectural League’s mentorship program. The League pairs local architecture students with architects working in the field for a year of events, conversations, and connections. We were honored to be asked to host their mid-year office tour where mentors and mentees explored our space, discussed design concepts, engaged with materials, and got to know our team. This evening felt particularly meaningful as we think back on our 60 years of practice and honor the legacy of our founder, Paul Byard, who was the longest running president of the league and who truly believed in the power of design. Thank you to The Architectural League of New York and the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation for making last night possible!
