Reflecting on an amazing experience from my first semester! In June and July, I had the opportunity to participate in the PaxHax x Enactus Australia Hackathon, where our mission was to create innovative start-ups that support UNSDG16: Peace. I collaborated with an amazing team—Yuna C., Adi, and Yu Wun Chan—to tackle this challenge. Our project was targeted to foster peace through a gamified legal education app called Legalyze. Given that "peace" can mean a lot of things, we defined it as reducing injustice by bridging the gap in access to legal education. The idea was initially conceived by Adi, who detailed the problem; Yuna C. designed the solution; Yu Wun Chan crafted the UI (shown below) and tackled various challenges, and I focused on the financials. This experience drove me to analyse Duolingo’s business model and even develop a projected valuation for Legalyze using financial data from other EduTech start-ups. After countless hours of work and preparation, we were thrilled to be awarded “Best Overall Team” in the state finals. While I couldn’t attend the national stage due to travel, the team achieved an incredible 2nd Overall. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with friends and gain new perspectives on supporting peace (UNSDG16). Huge thanks to PaxHax, Enactus Australia, and the organising teams for making this experience possible—and, of course, for the prize money! ??

PaxHax equipping young people in peace innovation and developing early-stage PeaceTech

On July 3, over 50 students gathered in Melbourne for the PaxHax x Enactus Australia Hackathon. Their mission? To develop groundbreaking innovations and start-ups that champion Positive Peace and UNSDG16. It's about building a world where positive qualities flourish, going beyond the absence of conflict to ensure lasting peace (see Positive Peace, Institute for Economics & Peace). ?? This year Enactus Australia is delighted to be partnering with the team at PaxHax to deliver a series of regional collaborative hackathons to explore Peace and SDG 16. Enactus Melbourne team have led this initiative and we are very happy to celebrate our inaugural winners from Semester 1.
