On this President's Day we remember some of those who served our nation in the highest office with gifted companions at their side. Service and Therapy Dogs have provided support for past US Presidents in our nation's history and they have done it well. Franklin D. Roosevelt – Fala (Companion Dog) Roosevelt’s Scottish Terrier provided emotional support. FDR, who had polio and used a wheelchair, found comfort in Fala’s presence, and the dog became a famous White House companion. Ronald Reagan – Lucky (Therapy Dog) Lucky was a Bouvier des Flandres who was a gift from Reagan's wife, Nancy. Lucky was a therapy dog who visited hospitals and nursing homes. He was also dignified and regal, and joined the Reagans on official trips. Calvin Coolidge – Rob Roy (Comfort Dog) Coolidge and his wife Grace had a white Collie named Rob Roy, who was often seen in the White House and provided companionship to the president during stressful times. George H.W. Bush – Sully (Service Dog) After his presidency, George H.W. Bush had a service dog named Sully, a yellow Labrador trained to assist him with mobility and daily tasks after he developed Parkinson’s disease. Sully gained national recognition for his loyalty and service, even attending Bush’s funeral in 2018. These dogs have enormous impact on their owners lives, this is why P4P is dedicated to bringing these remarkable dogs to people in need!
