During ADIPEC, Senior Technical Engineer, Dawood Alqunais, presented his co-authored SPE paper titled, “Revolutionizing Drilling Efficiency in Highly Interbedded Formations Using a Sustainable Approach Through a Cutting-Edge PDC Bit Design.” The paper addresses the challenge of drilling large-diameter sections, particularly the 22" vertical section, through transitional formations in Saudi Arabia. Offering a new solution for the region, our team suggested RipSaw, drill bit designs with alternating aggressive and passive cutter back rake angles. Field tests demonstrated that the new design reduced torsional vibration, achieving a 49.56% improvement in ROP and reducing harmful torque fluctuations by 25%.
