As an interior fit-out contractor, we work with a lot of flooring materials. Many offices and corporate environments contain low pile carpets for aesthetic and sound-absorbing reasons. So it got us thinking - who invented carpet tiles? ?? Sparked by the idea of creating less waste and how relatively easy tile was to use, the carpet tile was born in 1951 by Jan van Heugten from the Dutch town of Nijkerk. This new product provided convenience and flexibility, so when the coffee spilled in the conference room, only a tile or two was needed to be replaced. As the product was refined, it was only a short time after that carpet tiles became the widespread choice in commercial spaces. #CommercialConstruction #GeneralContractor
