We often operate on autopilot, driven by unconscious biases and motivations we're unaware of. Do you think you know yourself inside and out? You might be surprised. So much of who we really are lies beneath the surface of conscious awareness. Ironically, the first step towards true self-awareness is recognizing that we don't always have the whole picture. This lack of self-knowledge can significantly impact our leadership. Ready to dive deeper and explore the power of Pathwise Leadership? A concept we often discuss in our classes relates to our tendency to believe that we are thinking when, in reality, we are actually "recalling." Recalling isn't intrinsically bad; rather, we don't see that our "ideas" come from past experiences or training and rarely take in unique circumstances at a particular moment. By coming at a problem from the position of "not knowing" and passing through the tendency of your ego to tell yourself you are already did this; you may then experience the tension of not knowing. On the other side of this tension, you may find yourself open to thinking of something new or find the openness to listen curiously to others, out of which something new can arise. Already knowing may block true innovation. By quieting the ego and embracing the "not knowing," you can open yourself to new possibilities. How can you break free from the "replay" butting in your mind? Let's chat in the comments.

"Some people will think that being empathetic means being weak or a pushover. In leadership, decisions need to be made that effect people. There is a lot of power there. Empathy really brings a greater perspective of the truth of what is happening with the people in order to make a better or more just decision for the whole. In Buddhism, they have a concept called ‘right action.’ It means the opposite of ‘re-action.’ How can we make a decision from a place of greater truth and understanding of what is good for the whole — This was Plato’s great invitation for leaders 2500 years ago." - Chad Our cofounder Chad Hattrup, Ph.D., was interviewed by?Cynthia Corsetti on?5 Ways Empathy Will Affect Your Leadership in Authority Magazine. Who we are as adults is deeply rooted in our early childhood experiences. Our early childhood experiences shape our perceptions, emotional responses, and behavioral patterns well into adulthood. An interesting study in?New Scientist?raises the possibility that consciousness emerges just before birth. What are your thoughts? https://lnkd.in/dFuzFmU8?

Being present is crucial for leaders because it enables them to be more effective, empathetic, and adaptable. Here's why: Presence allows leaders to fully feel and understand the moment from subtle nonverbal signals from employees. This heightened awareness gives leaders better decision-making and problem-solving. Presence allows leaders to remain at a higher cognitive level, especially when under stress or uncertainty. They can think more clearly and make better judgments. Learning how to be present is like working out a muscle, a capability developed through consistent practice and exposure to demanding situations. Once you understand how to truly be present, it will help you resist automatic triggers and maintain composure. Ready to learn how to truly be present? Thank?you?Chris?for?sharing your story about the impact Pathwise Leadership has had on your life, personally and professionally.
Lieutenant at Washington State Patrol | Public Safety | Amateur Geologist | Diehard Seattle Mariners Fan
Several years ago I was a newly promoted supervisor at the Washington State Patrol. My supervisor had been participating in Pathwise Leadership and shared his positive experiences with the program. When he asked if I would be interested, I immediately said yes because I felt his passion for the program, and I knew this was an opportunity I shouldn’t pass up. As soon as the program began I immediately began experiencing “Aha” moment after “Aha” moment, learning concepts like Suspension of Attention, Defenses, and Cognitive Development that made me realize my growth, both personally and professionally, was about to take on a new level. Pathwise exceeded my expectations professionally, and the impact it had on me personally was much greater. On a personal level, ??I have become a better listener. ??I am more patient and understanding. ??I have established a deeper understanding of personality and emotion. Professionally, ??It helped me better understand the dynamics of the 48 people I supervise. ??It helped me cater my guidance and mentorship to each of my employee’s needs. I would love to see the law enforcement community formally embrace the concepts that Pathwise Leadership teaches. While law enforcement is made up of individuals who wish to serve and protect and often do so with compassion, the fundamentals behind what Pathwise instills in its students are invaluable, and unfortunately, largely absent in any official curriculum within the profession. Thank you to Chad Hattrup, Ph.D. and Pathwise Leadership for everything! #PathwiseLeader #LawEnforcemenrLeadership #ProfessionalDevelopment

Now is a great time to extend our compassion as well as search for understanding others better. But our biology can get in the way. This deep conversation with Todd Hollow-Bist explores some of our limitations and what we can do to go beyond our existing thinking, and how we can develop a greater picture of the world, ourselves and others. #FutureOfLeadership #DeepThinking #compassion

With so much coming at us, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless. But here's the truth: you're not a passenger in your own life. You're the driver. Think of it like you’re driving a car. It’s very easy to get distracted and let your concentration wander, but if you let go of the wheel, then the car veers off course. The same happens in life when you don’t take charge of your thoughts. By learning to shut down the noise and step outside the distractions, you can steer your mind and navigate through challenges with ease and grace. Read more on Forbes: https://lnkd.in/dsQJd3Yt
