We're beyond excited to be working with?Nicole C. Allred?and?Omidyar Network?to host "Untold Futures"?today. We're?connecting?40 diverse global futurists and?tech?experts?with?40 TV writers to reimagine how we tell?pluralistic tech?stories, rethink who "owns" the future, and the ongoing digital revolution. We're beyond honored to have our heroes Audrey Tang, Dr. Joy Buolamwini, Catherine Bracy, Michelle Miller, Monika Bielskyte, Nichol Bradford, Alija Blackwell, Cristina Mancini, Avriel Epps, Amanda Ballantyne, Courtney D. Cogburn, Ph.D., Michaela A. Ternasky-Holland, Phoenix Perry, PhD SFHEA, Cecilia Tham, Alice Dimond, Dr. Rumman Chowdhury, Daniel H. Wilson, and many others joining us. (Big shoutout to School of International Futures (SOIF) for the help recruiting some top notch leaders!) Meanwhile, we've got writers and creators from the Star Trek Universe, the Star Wars Universe, The Flash, The Walking Dead, Blade Runner, Grey’s Anatomy, The Handmaid’s Tale, One Piece, You, Transparent, Nine Perfect Strangers, Under the Bridge, The Bear, Home Before Dark, Futurama, etc. What would it look like if we co-created narratives for the future? And how could technology support the future of humanity, rather than humanity supporting the unrelenting proliferation of technology? Let us know your thoughts in the comments ??

Pathos Labs is a non-profit laboratory focused on exploring ways in which entertainment and media can rewrite narratives
关于我们
Pathos Labs is a 501c3 non-profit that exists to propel the world closer to one that is welcoming, tolerant, pluralistic and sustainable. To do that, we create projects targeting the most powerful force that shapes human behavior: our dominant cultural narratives. Evidence shows that stories have the power to shift people’s minds and hearts and create a common sense of belonging that combats fear and prejudice. But to change the views that influence our behaviors on a mass societal level, we have to reach millions of people across many different ideological groups with stories that compassionately represent the true diversity of the country. The best place to meet that many people is right where they are at: through the narrative streams that they’re already consuming.

Wow, we love our web designer Mayra Bottino so much. She's incredibly talented, and just won the Latin American Design award for her work on the Pathos Labs // PopShift websites! ?????? SO well deserved, Mayra!
A few weeks ago, I traveled to Brazil to receive a Latin American Design award in the Digital category for my work on the Pathos Labs website. Those were days full of inspiration and emotions, where I was fortunate enough to share moments with Latin American designers I deeply admire. Thanks to the Pathos Labs // PopShift team for trusting me with this challenging project and for all the feedback. This recognition is a shared celebration ?? I’m happy to keep creating what I love. Viva el dise?o latinoamericano!

We've been thinking a lot about fandoms at Pathos Labs // PopShift. How can we harness the power of deep fascination (and, dare I say, total obsession) with both popular and niche cultural icons, moments, and stories to drive meaningful impact and create a deeper sense of interconnectedness and belonging? Especially, in a moment where we desperately need to build stronger connections across diverse audiences, fandoms might be a bright-spot worth paying special attention to.
Content is no longer king because now it is a democracy. YouTube has released its fandom report, and here are a few takeaways that I found to be quite interesting: 85% of people online (14-44 y.o.) describe themselves as "fans," meaning they turn to their object of fandom for connecting socially and doing self-care, which will ultimately feed into their identity. Gen Z fans see a piece of content as an invitation to enter a conversation, not as a final destination. 66% of Gen Z Americans agree that they often spend more time watching content that discusses or unpacks something than the thing itself. YT introduced a very nice piece of language: "professional fans." 8% of Gen Z Fandom monetize their interest in fandom (e.g., professional Swifties will report on and decode Taylor news and lore for more casual fans). Very nice trend report, and if anything: Can I ask the Youtube team for one thing??In the next report, could you please integrate more primary data from Youtube? For example, I dream about understanding how the content lands with professional fans and how this transition is happening. To take Taylor Swift, say she?drops a new song. What's next? Is there a network of accounts that suddenly become very active? How many pieces of content are being produced as a result? What triggers this activity? What are their themes? But even without the primary data, this is a great report in which YouTube validates that fandom culture is here to stay, and if anything, GenAI will supercharge it.?

Big welcome to BLIS Collective - doing utterly important narrative repair work, healing the wounds that were caused to (and continue to affect) Black and Indigenous people ??
Hello, world! We are the BLIS Collective, a new organization borne out of the idea that we must repair the damages done to Black and Indigenous people in what we now call the United States and create a future where every individual, no matter their identity, has equal opportunity to thrive. Head to our website to learn more: https://lnkd.in/da-mkVkf We see our work as being a subset of movement infrastructure – what we call narrative infrastructure; the fundamental and interconnected systems, services, and platforms that enable stories, perceptions, and understandings to be constructed, shared and evolved (check out our grounding definitions on our website!) Today, we’re launching our new website and this LinkedIn page, which will showcase the work we’re committed to doing – sparking radical collaboration and narrative alignment between and within Black, Indigenous, and transformative social movements to repair, decolonize, and reshape culture. We organize at the movement and narrative level to create the conditions for deeper solidarity and collective action! Our work is inspired by and follows the lineage of movements like the American Indian Movement and Civil Rights movement, as well as organizations like This Is ReFrame, Center for Story-based Strategy, The Movement for Black Lives, NDN Collective, Color Of Change, and so many others. There are two quotes that we’ve been turning back to often as we get the work of BLIS off the ground. One from a poem titled “Blood Memory,” by shaznay s.s. Waugh featured in NDN Collective’s 2024 LANDBACK Magazine who said, “What is stolen is not lost, but waiting to be found again.” The other from the historian James Fraser, who said, “Our inability to look at things as if they could be otherwise is perhaps society’s greatest challenge.” We plan to support movements in finding and reclaiming all that has been stolen, and help everyone understand that things can indeed be otherwise. In solidarity, The BLIS Collective

As we reflect upon the legacy of Norman Lear who passed away on Tuesday, we wanted to share a story about him that few people know...
Introducing influential storytellers to the world's most fascinating people to change dominant narratives
As we reflect upon the legacy of Norman Lear who passed away on Tuesday, I wanted to share a story that few people know- a story that made me believe that perhaps in addition to being one of the greatest television creators of all time, he might have also prevented World War III. In the autumn of 1979, amidst the looming shadows of the Cold War, at a time when the Soviet Union and the United States had nuclear missiles pointed at one another, a private gathering took place in an unassuming living room outside of Hollywood. This was no ordinary meeting, but a quiet revolution masterminded by Norman Lear. In that room, the air buzzed with creative energy and a sense of purpose, as prominent television writers and screenwriters sat alongside some of the brightest minds of the era – Carl Sagan, Roger Fisher, Ted Turner, etc. Lear's vision was simple yet profound: to change the attitudes and behaviors of a country anticipating war. As a result of this private gathering, this coalition, under Lear's guidance, crafted narratives that subtly but surely steered millions of Americans towards a path of peace and understanding. Through the laughter and drama of television's most influential programs, they rewrote reality, turning away from fear and towards hope. This content was seen by hundreds of millions of people, including President Ronald Regan who admitted his ideas of nuclear warfare had significantly changed, as a result. Today, as we mourn the loss of Norman Lear, we at Pathos Labs // PopShift find ourselves grateful that deeply inspired by his legacy. Lear's belief in the transformative power of storytelling and what can happen when you bring writers and experts together inspired our work. Like how Lear brought together experts and TV writers to shape a nation's destiny, we, too, strive to bridge the gap between insights and influence. We strive to continue his legacy, gathering creative and intellectual forces to script narratives that inspire, educate, and drive change. Norman Lear was more than a television pioneer; he was a visionary who showed us the immense power of collaborative storytelling. As we humbly try to carry forward his torch along other amazing organizations in the culture change space, Norman Lear's legacy lives on in every story we tell, in every collaboration we foster, and in the hearts we touch through the power of storytelling. Rest in peace, Norman Lear. Your life was a script of inspiration, and your legacy a testament to the power of collective creativity. #NormanLear #WorldWarIII #NuclearWar #Television #Legacy #Legend #NarrativeChange
