New insights from a recent study highlight the benefits of examining both Pap tests and cervical biopsies within the same institution. This approach enhances the accuracy of diagnoses through cytology-histology correlation (CHC) and reduces discrepancies and unnecessary anxiety for patients. Why does this matter? Consolidating these tests in one institution leads to more precise care and better treatment decisions. Learn how PathAdvantage achieves better patient outcomes through integrated diagnostic practices in our journal. https://lnkd.in/gix2iqjT

Do you know the differences between the roles of a pathologist and an oncologist? While both specialize in diagnosing cancer, oncologists are trained to treat it, sometimes focusing on specific methods like radiation or chemotherapy, or particular cancers such as breast or prostate cancer. Pathologists study body fluids, cells, and tissues to diagnose diseases, especially cancer. They rarely have direct patient contact — so you may not meet your pathologist — but their findings guide oncologists in determining the next steps for treatment. That’s why the pathologist is called the “doctor’s doctor.” At PathAdvantage, our expert pathologists work diligently to test and screen patients to catch cancer early, ensuring timely and effective treatment.

Gonorrhea has become resistant to nearly EVERY class of antibiotic used to treat it! Accordingly, the CDC has changed its recommended regimen for the treatment of gonococcal infections. Here is the new regimen: Medication, mainly ceftriaxone, should be provided immediately after diagnosis. Further STI testing for chlamydia, syphilis, and HIV is recommended, as well as treatment of current or past sexual partners, and abstaining from sexual activity for 7 days. Retest after three months to be sure the infection has not returned. Ninety percent of UTIs are caused by Escherichia coli bacteria, also known as E. coli. Due to rising resistance in commonly used antibiotics, especially for E. coli, it is more important than ever that UTI diagnosis and treatment are timely and correct so antibiotics are not incorrectly prescribed. PathAdvantage is proud to offer a unique, first of its kind FDA approved technology that allows for rapid, essentially 100% sensitive confirmation of negative urine cultures in only three hours so clinicians can receive same-day results. All positive UTI results are reflexed to culture and sensitivity to ensure proper antibiotic treatment. At PathAdvantage, we are continually evaluating new technology in our effort to provide clinicians highly accurate results with a 24 hour turnaround time. In no area could this be more important than testing for Group B Streptococcus in pregnant patients. To that end, recently adopted Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests (NAATs), as featured in a recent issue of CAP Today. GBS is a bacterium naturally found in the lower genital tract of about 25% of pregnant women in the US. While usually harmless to mothers, it can cause serious infections and even death in newborns. With proper detection and treatment prior to giving birth, it's completely preventable. NAAT testing provides higher sensitivity and a faster turnaround time than previously available methods such as culturing, which could take up to seven days. A fast turnaround time is key ensuring the patient does not go into labor before getting results. Before adopting this new technology, we conducted thorough research and validation of different testing platforms. Our new technology, the Panther Fusion GBS assay, successfully passed all validation requirements even demonstrating a higher sensitivity than previous methods, which was consistent with findings described in published literature. We are proud to offer this efficient, accurate, and fast testing method to our clinicians. SOURCES: Shin JH and Pride DT.
