The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the critical role of #MedicalOxygen, but it's essential to understand its importance extends beyond emergencies. Medical oxygen is vital for routine health care—whether it's in surgeries, emergencies, or maternal care—making consistent access a lifesaving necessity. In an article featured in Hindustan Times, PATH's Jayendra Kasar and Ankur Mutreja emphasize the need for sustainable, long-term strategies, particularly in the #GlobalSouth, to overcome infrastructure and logistical challenges. Investing in oxygen infrastructure and equipping health care workers with the necessary training will ensure that medical oxygen remains readily available, both for routine care and in future health emergencies. Yet we recognize there is still a long way to go before universal #OxygenAccess becomes a reality. Join us on the sidelines of #WHS2024 this month to learn more about the important role of sustainable financing for oxygen: https://bit.ly/3N2Nk9E #InvestInOxygen #GlobalOxygenAlliance #WorldOxygenDay
As we celebrate #WorldOxygenDay, we're reflecting on the progress made by the Global Oxygen Alliance since its launch at last year's World Health Assembly. More countries now have: ??? Roadmaps to set the stage for strong oxygen systems. ?? Available equipment and pulse oximetry. ???? A stronger workforce to produce and deliver this lifesaving treatment. See what PATH and other #GlobalOxygenAlliance partners have accomplished: https://bit.ly/4esf6Iw #InvestInOxygen

At #UNGA79, South Africa's Deputy Minister Deputy Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Steve Letsike joined a dynamic roundtable co-hosted by PATH, Digital Square at PATH, Wellcome Trust, World Health Organization, and Co-Develop. She highlighted South Africa’s drive to use digital public infrastructure for health (DPI-H) to transform health care, tackle climate challenges, and boost financial inclusion. South Africa is leading the way with decades of work in digital transformation, moving from paper-based health systems to integrated, secure digital platforms. This leadership, particularly through the upcoming #G20, is key to building healthier communities and more resilient economies. #DigitalPublicInfrastructure #DigitalHealth #HealthEquity

Vaccines are an underutilized yet powerful tool in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). On the sidelines of #UNGA79, PATH Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Melanie Saville joined experts to discuss how vaccines, alongside diagnostics and innovative technologies, can accelerate the global response to #AMR. This event also reviewed the proceedings of the High-Level Meeting on AMR and the resulting political declaration. Dr Saville highlighted: ? The urgent need to scale up vaccines to reduce antibiotic use ? Driving forward the rapid adoption of diagnostic tools to prevent misuse ? Integrating data systems for effective AMR surveillance With bold action and commitment, we can turn the tide on AMR. Thank you to our co-hosts BIOVITAE and Health Innovation Exchange - HIEx, and to our panelists Dr. Melanie Saville (PATH), Hon. Patricia Scotland KC (The Commonwealth), Hon. As #UNGA week wraps up in NY, it is a great reminder of the challenges, the progress and the opportunities across global health and education. My highlight of the week was hosting a joint event with PATH at Ares Management Corporation. Nikolaj Gilbert and myself spoke about partnerships being the key to bending the curve to drive health equality globally.

More people die worldwide from #CardiovascularDisease than any other cause. PATH works with health systems to strengthen access to care for people at risk for or living with #CVD through: ?? Creating opportunities for physical activity through community sport. ???? Hypertension screening and linkage to care. ?? Addressing supply chain challenges to ensure medicines and products are reaching the people who need them. ?? Improving data quality so resources can be properly allocated to high-burden communities. Programs like ours are making real progress in access to care, but there is still much more to do. This #WorldHeartDay, we call on global leaders to prioritize investment in the response to CVD and other noncommunicable diseases. https://bit.ly/4gATqvp
