Now through the end of the year we'll be trading #FunFactFridays for #FeelGoodFridays, to feature heartwarming stories from some of our member centers! To kickstart this series, here's a story from Central Kentucky Riding for Hope (CKRH). "Shirley, a longtime CKRH volunteer and talented fabric artist, is known for her custom horse costumes, especially those featured in “Night of the Stars” plaques. She also contributes to the Tack Sale each year and has shown immense dedication to CKRH. Following a life-threatening accident involving carbon monoxide poisoning and a stroke, Shirley became a CKRH rider, setting therapeutic riding as a rehab goal. Initially, she required assistance to mount, needed a walker or cane, and had side walker support. Over time, Shirley progressed to driving herself to lessons, walking independently, and riding with minimal assistance. Now, she even rides unclipped and navigates trails with her favorite Norwegian Fjord, Aksel. Shirley’s journey showcases the remarkable healing power of horses, as she says, “just sitting on a horse is therapeutic!” Thanks for sharing, Central Kentucky Riding for Hope!
