U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently shared an update on re-parole for newcomers from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who came to the United States through a two-year sponsorship program. There is currently no re-parole process in place through USCIS; it is unclear whether individuals who apply for re-parole will be eligible. There are, however, other legal status options that sponsors can help newcomers explore before their two-year sponsorship period ends. This includes seeking asylum, the Cuban Adjustment Act, immigrant and non-immigrant visas, and Temporary Protected Status. Learn more about newcomers’ options to apply for alternative status → https://lnkd.in/gP9TgHhe Or join us tomorrow for a webinar designed for sponsors who have welcomed newcomers through a humanitarian parole pathway and seek to assist newcomers in applying for alternative legal status → https://lnkd.in/gsFX6KPa

Over 125 thousand. Over 125 thousand individual refugees have been vetted and ready to travel to the United States. Yesterday, our very own Ally Ntumba participated in a discussion at the White House organized by the National Security Council, Domestic Policy Council, and Department of State. Attendees included representatives from various refugee organizations and diaspora communities. Attendees discussed the future of the Welcome Corps program and the need to sponsor some of the many individuals who have been vetted and are ready to travel to the United States. To those interested, we urge you to take the first step in sponsoring a refugee to safety and freedom or invite your friends and colleagues to do so. To those who submit Welcome Corps matching applications before Giving Tuesday (December 3), we will cover all financial requirements of refugee sponsorship: ??https://lnkd.in/gr9JTCSr

Last week four families were reunited at the Indianapolis International Airport. It all happened thanks to the Welcome Corps program. As of Dec. 31, 2023, over one million refugees have fled Myanmar (Burma) throughout its several decades of war and the central government's persecution of ethnic minorities. Today Indianapolis is home to a significant population of Burma refugees. It's been affectionately dubbed "Chindianapolis" after the many ethnic "Chin" people from eastern Burma residing here.
