关于我们
PASR (Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees) serves the needs of ALL persons who retired from the public schools of Pennsylvania. PASR is an association comprised of members who are all retired employees of the public schools of Pennsylvania. We are former teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses, secretaries, aides, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, maintenance staff—in short, anyone who is now receiving a pension from the Pennsylvania School Employees Retirement System (PSERS). PASR’s mission is To serve others in need and help one another enjoy retirement. PASR was established in 1937 and is a pioneer of nonprofit voluntary membership organizations nationally—having helped establish both the National Retired Teachers’ Association in 1947 and the nation’s largest senior organization, AARP, in 1958. Currently, there are approximately 70 local PASR chapters. Most are found throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; however, chapters are located throughout the country. #paschoolretirees

??Introducing our NEW Member Spotlight! We are excited to launch a new quarterly Member Spotlight. We will be sharing individuals who have made our PASR community thrive. Each quarter, a featured member will share their story, insights, and experience in their own words. First up, Myleen McCollum! ?? My name is Myleen McCollum, and I am a member of the Greene Chapter of PASR (GCASR) in Region 7, which covers Southwestern PA. Following graduation from Slippery Rock University, employment took me to the Connellsville Area School District as one of the junior high librarians for three years. As a young mother at home, my spare time was given to volunteer activities in the community for 17 years. Ten years ago, I retired from the West Greene School District as an elementary librarian with 22 years of service. During that time of employment, I had served on rep council several years and as the president of the EA. Although it was not a goal to serve as president of the Greene Chapter, it was a somewhat natural transition to do so. My history had preceded me. Both of my parents had served in the presidential position of the Greene Chapter during the 1990’s. They were both devoted to the mission and goals of PASR. The fact that PASR welcomes and includes all school staff members was important, as my mother was a school secretary and my dad served in the positions of teacher, guidance counselor, principal and curriculum coordinator for nearly 40 years. It was also my privilege to travel a few times with the Greene Chapter on their RECRO trips prior to my retirement. As a member of Greene County school retirees, I am currently the publicity chair and serve on other committees, as well as being immediate past president. Since May of 2016, I have sent out a monthly newsletter to our membership. It has been an invaluable tool for keeping our members apprised of our community volunteer activities with numerous opportunities for service. Assisting with the RECREO committee, as needed, gives me time to develop new friendships as we travel. None of this can happen without a good support system from our GCASR board and at home. My husband of 52 years, Phil and I own a 112-acre working beef farm in western Greene County. We have one son, Seann, and two granddaughters. We’ve always been active in church activities. Currently I teach a class of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in the Released Time Bible program once a week. Additionally, I volunteer with the Telephone Reassurance program with Blue Prints (formerly Community Action). The motto of PASR is “To serve others in need and help one another enjoy retirement”. I embrace this fully. Everyone brings “something to the table.” My desire is to see individuals have a sense of belonging, eternal purpose, and to know how they fit. #paschoolretirees #educational #paschools #PAEducatorr #MemberSpotlight
