Our anti-cruelty bill, HB 1149, has passed the first cutoff in the session! We're glad to see five animal protection bills moving forward in the process of becoming state law. Unfortunately, several important bills did not advance this session, but they will be revisited in 2026. Washington’s veterinarian shortage is making access to spay/neuter services more challenging than ever. That's why our team recently spayed and neutered 15 dogs at Pima Medical Institute. We worked alongside vet assistant students gaining hands-on experience in high-quality, high-impact care. Vet assistants play a vital role in keeping spay/neuter clinics running and expanding access to care. Investing in veterinary education — at all levels — is essential to closing this gap. HB 1149 strengthens laws against animal fighting and closes loopholes that allow neglect to go unpunished.
