Sometimes small change helps make big change. Over the last several weeks, Vroman's Bookstore has given its customers the opportunity to “round up” their purchases to support the Eaton Fire Relief & Recovery Fund here at Pasadena Community Foundation. So far, Vroman’s efforts have raised $7,396 for the Fund. We thank our favorite independent bookstore for its generous support for our community. #communitymatters

EdSource, thank you for sharing such a beautiful profile of Sky Celine, one of the transition age foster youth who found a home through First Place for Youth and with Pasadena Community Foundation funding support last fall. Those of you who attended our Local Heroes Celebration in November had the honor of hearing Sky Celine speak!
A collaboration between Pasadena City College, Pasadena Community Foundation and First Place for Youth, an organization that supports successful transition of foster youth to adulthood, is providing housing to transition-age foster youth. “Many of our students were going from group home to group home, carrying their stuff in a trash bag,” said David Sigala educational adviser at the college’s program for students with experience in foster care. “A lot of our students didn’t have much because they were moving around so much. So having the means to now buy new clothes, wear new shoes, it just brings a whole different perspective.”

On January 30, students at John Muir High School departed school for the day to see tables of fully stocked backpacks waiting for them - a gift from Amazon. The company hosted this uplifting giveaway to brighten the spirits of a school community deeply impacted by the Eaton Fire. PCF was grateful to participate in the event along with our partners from Pasadena Unified School District and Pasadena Educational Foundation. In addition to this generous giveaway, Amazon demonstrated its commitment to the Pasadena community by donating $150,000 to the Pasadena Educational Foundation to support educational initiatives within the area. Their contributions also included significant support to Pasadena Community Foundation's Eaton Fire Relief & Recovery Fund, as well as to more than a dozen nonprofit partners in Altadena and Pasadena dedicated to assisting fire survivors. David Ambroz, Head of Public Policy & Community Engagement Southern California, expressed his appreciation for this collaborative effort:? ?“Amazon Global Philanthropy recognizes that Pasadena Community Foundation has a 72-year history of fostering long-term relationships with nonprofits and community leaders in Altadena and Pasadena. We turned to them when directing our support to the community. Jennifer DeVoll and her team at PCF provided invaluable counsel, helping Amazon identify key opportunities to give back.“ PCF extends deep gratitude to Amazon for its incredible community support following the Eaton Fire.

Another financial institution has stepped up to assist our Eaton Fire Relief & Recovery Fund. Our President/CEO, Jennifer DeVoll, visited Open Bank yesterday to receive its generous $200,000 gift for the fund. ?? "Since the wildfires broke out, Open Bank has been exploring various nonprofit organizations and institutions to determine the most effective way to provide aid. After careful consideration, the bank sought to support a region in critical need by collaborating with an organization offering tangible assistance." Open Bank's gift will help PCF offer immediate and longer-term support to our neighbors who have been impacted by the #EatonFire. Thank you, Open Bank!
