We will uplift, support, and empower women in the PA profession to have visibility within their organizations and opportunities for advancement. We are committed to sponsor, mentor and cultivate the next generation of pacesetters by empowering women to become leaders and become strong voices within the PA profession.

    As an organization dedicated to the advancement and empowerment of PA Women we are excited to announce that we are seeking candidates to fill open board positions for the upcoming term. Serving on the board is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the growth and direction of PAs for Women Empowerment, while also developing valuable leadership skills. We are looking to fill the following board positions: Vice President (2 year commitment) Secretary (2 year commitment) Public Relations/Social Media Director (2 year commitment) Legislative Director (2 year commitment) Student Director (1 year commitment) HOD Chief Delegate and Alternate (1 year commitment) The timeline for this year’s nominations are: June 1, 2024 - Candidate Declaration Opens June 6, 2024 - Candidate Declaration Closes June 8, 2024 - Candidate Platforms Published June 13, 2024 - Ballots Sent to Eligible Members June 18, 2024 - Ballots Close at 11:59 PM Eastern Time June 20, 2024 - Election results finalized and reported If you are interested in running for one of these positions, please click the button below for more information. A new Pew Research Center survey, published March 1, found that about two-thirds of working mothers with children in the household said they felt a great deal of pressure to focus on their responsibilities at home, compared to just 45% of working dads." I'm sure a lot of us can relate to this woman's experience. ?? "In 2022, American women earned $0.82 for every $1.00 earned by men, not much more than the $0.80 they made on a man’s dollar in 2002, according to a Pew analysis of Current Population Survey data, also released on March 1." ?? “The pay gap is impacted by parenthood, which is entwined with the pressures women feel to take care of family responsibilities,” says Rakesh Kochhar, senior researcher at Pew. ???? ???? ???? "This pay gap persists even though a higher share of women than men in the workforce hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, and even though more women are entering higher paying fields like law, finance, science, and engineering." "When Cassedy founded the group in 1973, employers could still fire women for being pregnant, she says. (This was outlawed with the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978.) Today, there are many more legal protections for women who have children, but cultural change has not happened as quickly as Cassedy and other feminists expected. " It is no different for PA women.     As we embark on a new year, we would like to reflect on our accomplishments, and share with you some of the projects we have been working on for this new year, with this important message from our President: ?? ?? Whether you have been working tirelessly or spending much needed time with family.??We are proud to announce that we recently held our first successful PAWE in a Pack event; PAWE Pack the Purse.??This toiletry and necessities collection packed inside purses benefited women including young mothers and victims of domestic violence.??Stay tuned for more details about our next PAWE in a Pack event after the first of the year.??If you’d like to host your own Pack the Purse event, check out the website,?pasforwe.org?for all of the resources, tips and graphics to be used in print and on social media. ?? I want to give as much advance notice as possible for a few upcoming important dates.??On Thursday January 25, 2024 at 9 pm EST PAWE will be holding its first virtual general membership meeting.??There will once again be a booth for PAWE in CO Central and an in-person general membership meeting at the AAPA annual conference, date/time to be determined. ???? Speaking of AAPA, to some May 2024 feels far away, but PAWE is already hard at work writing resolutions for submission to the AAPA House of Delegates and planning for our informational booth as mentioned.??If you would like to help with this important work, please reach out. ?? Upcoming CME available to our members include discussions on pelvic floor therapy, domestic violence, palliative care and more.??CME calendar is coming soon.??If you would like to present a CME topic to our members, please contact our CME Director at?[email protected]?and we can chat more. While I know the holiday season is a busy one, alongside year end activities like submitting CME and renewing licenses, I know that many are looking for ways to use up CME dollars.??I would love if any of you suggested an annual membership to PAs for Women Empowerment to your colleagues, especially if you hear of anyone with extra CME funds available!
