The New Jersey Department of Children and Families' Family Connects NJ initiative connects parents with a specially trained nurse for a personalized follow-up visit at home within the first two weeks after their child's birth. Family Connects NJ currently operates in several counties and will eventually be available statewide. This webinar will highlight the program goals and outcomes and share how healthcare professionals can refer families as the initiative expands in northern New Jersey to Bergen, Hudson, Passaic, and Sussex counties in 2025. Last evening, we were honored to collaborate with the Clifton Health Department for a screening of "Toxic: A Black Woman's Story" at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.?The event, hosted by student groups - ACOG, AMWA, Association of Women Surgeons, and Medical Students for Choice - focused on systemic racism in maternal care and how medical students can make an impact to reduce racial health disparities.?The panel was led by Danielle Jones, MPH,CHES from the Clifton Department of Health and featured Marise Angibeau-Gray, a doula and doula trainer, and Partnership leaders Mariekarl V. and Yessenia Mercedes, MSW. A special thank you to the student groups, Freddy Alexis Perez from the medical school, and Crystal Rodriguez and Layal Helwani, MPH, CHES? from the Clifton Department of Health for their support of this dynamic event.

Through the generosity of The Burke Foundation, the Family Connects NJ Essex County team has been visiting area hospitals and sharing news of this universal postpartum home visitation program. On Monday, Mountainside Medical Center welcomed Brandie C. Wooding, MSN, RN, RNC-OB from the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, Dr. Jayshree Kumta, Dr. Sanjna Shah, and Partnership staff Emily Haines, MBA, BSN, RN, Siomara Diaz, Miriam Ogalo-Lebron, Hayat Rosiji, and Leslie Garcia to share information about this innovative NJDCF program that is helping to improve maternal health care. We are grateful to Maria Thurber, Director of Women's Services at Mountainside, who organized this valuable education session for the nursing staff.
