Sixty years ago, on Bloody Sunday, courageous men and women put their lives on the line for the right to vote and the promise of justice. Their bravery in the face of brutal opposition became a defining moment in the civil rights movement. Today, we honor the legacy of heroes like John Lewis and Hosea Williams, who led the march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, knowing the risks but refusing to back down. Their sacrifice was not in vain, but the fight for equity and justice continues. We are thrilled to celebrate Ngina Mandouma, LMSW, an inaugural member of the Just Health Academy cohort (2022–2023), for her unwavering commitment to health equity and social justice. With over 30 years of experience, Ngina has been a powerful advocate for communities impacted by mental health disparities, bridging critical gaps in behavioral health care. As a Behavioral Health Therapist at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and Program Coordinator for We Are On ASU, Ngina has played a pivotal role in supporting the mental well-being of students, faculty, and staff at Albany State University. Her leadership within the Just Health Circle (JHC) since 2019, and her contributions to the Outreach, Education, and Advocacy Workgroup (OEA) and the Health Equity: The Urgency of Now webinar series, have been invaluable in advancing the conversation around mental health and wellness. Ngina’s passion for advocacy, collaboration, and capacity building has made her an inspiring champion for health and racial equity, embodying the spirit of the Partnership for Southern Equity.
