What an inspiring day at the National Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) Launch on 4th March 2025. From impactful opening remarks by the Head of Cooperation from the Danish Embassy to the Danish Ambassador's official Welcome remarks highlighting Denmark’s long-term development framework in Uganda. The Climax was powerful speech delivered by the Hon. Prime Minister just after she toured our innovative exhibition stalls showcasing climate resilience and climate-smart agriculture. The event reached its pinnacle with an official signing ceremony led by the Prime Minister and Danish Ambassador, joined by all 12 Consortium partners—solidifying our commitment to transformative change in Uganda. Engaging panel discussions on the Sustainability of Refugee Interventions added valuable insights into future pathways. And, to top it off, two farmers from the successer programme (NURI) shared their heartfelt testimonials, showcasing real-world impact. This week, I had the pleasure of hosting the launch of the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI)! A new Danish ???? programme aimed at promoting climate resilience, sustainable management of the environment and gender equality in refugee and host communities in West Nile, Northern and Western Uganda ???? What an inspiring afternoon spent with our partners implementing URRI, government representatives, other development partners, our Youth Sounding Board, other key stakeholders and not least the RT Hon Prime Minister of Uganda?? Uganda continues to lead the way in the refugee response, hosting the largest refugee population in Africa of more than 1.8 million refugees. However, conflicts in neighbouring countries and the impacts of climate change increase the pressure on Uganda’s refugee model. URRI is designed to address these challenges, focusing on enhancing resilience and self-reliance for all in both refugees and host communities ?? It was a special moment of the day when all 12 partner organisations, led by @DRC and @SaveTheChildren Uganda, came together after months of co-creation and through their signatures confirmed their commitment to URRI and a shared vision of creating long-term impact for refugee and host communities. The exhibition of URRI activities was another highlight. Our dedicated partners showcased their work and activities through live and interactive demonstrations. Participants had the chance of experiencing a real life mini perma garden, try out a solar irrigation system, learn about drought-resistant seeds and energy efficient cook stoves ?? ?? Empowering Change Through Gender Action Learning System (GALS) Training Since Monday, February 24th, selected staff from Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehj?lp Led Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) Consortium Partner Organizations (PALM Corps DanChurchAid Uganda Partners in Development and Center for Holistic Transformation-PICOT) have been undergoing an intensive Training of Trainers (ToT) on the Gender Action Learning System (GALS)—a powerful methodology for mindset transformation, household visioning, and gender equality in agriculture. The Five-days training is hosted and facilitated by resident experts at CEFORD, where these practical skills will equip the future trainers (ToTs) to cascade GALS to the wider agricultural extension workforce, ensuring that communities embrace inclusive decision-making, shared responsibilities, and sustainable livelihoods. With GALS at the heart of our project design, we are fostering empowered households, equitable farming systems, and stronger communities for a resilient future. Co-Creation in Action: Shaping the URRI Project Together! on Thursday 13th Feb in Yumbe District we held a crucial Co-Creation Workshop organised by the URRI Consortium led by Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehj?lp that brought together stakeholders from Yumbe, Obongi, and Moyo disticts under Geographical Lot 1 of the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) programme. The focus of the co-creation workshop was on Refining the targeting criteria for sub-counties and settlements where implementation will take place. Also we collectively discussed the Farmer group selection criteria to ensure inclusivity. Through inclusive discussions, we are ensuring that interventions are needs-based, community-driven, and effectively reach the most vulnerable populations and to fostering transparency, ownership, and sustainability in decision-making we are working together with local leaders, Refugee leaders (RWC), UNHCR, OPM, government representatives, and development partners. Next week (18th feb) we shall be having the 2nd co-creation workshop for disticts in Geographical Lot 2 (Koboko, obongi and Madi-Okollo). on Wed this week PICOT joined the rest of the 7 new European Union in uganda grantees and their beneficiaries and affiliates in a half day Grants management Training held at Hotel African. Partners in Development and Center for Holistic Transformation-PICOT is a Co-Applicant to Plan International in a new Action that will be implemented in koboko and Maracha district focusing of Ending unintended teenage pregnancy. Stay tuned for more information concerning the project inception activities as we will be unpacking the project details.

Strong Start for Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) Program. After an engaging two-day orientation, we are excited to officially welcome 18 new team members to #PICOT under the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) Program. These dedicated professionals will be deployed in Yumbe and Koboko districts, where they will work alongside the public and private sector agriculture extension services providers together with refugee and host communities to promote climate resilience, financial inclusion, environmental conservation, and gender equality over the next 4yrs 2024-2028. Throughout the orientation, the team gained valuable insights into PICOT’s mission, values, and the URRI programme's goals and overall implementation strategy. Beyond learning, the team also engaged in exciting team-building activities, strengthening trust, collaboration, and problem-solving—key elements for success in their new roles. With their energy, passion, and commitment, we are confident that this team will drive transformative change in the communities we serve. Today we started one of the most important Activities of the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) Program; The National Inception Workshop organised by Embassy of Denmark in Uganda with an objective of kick-starting discussions amongst the Consortia and with the Embassy on some of the key areas of attention in the inception phase to ensure the success or URRI. All implementing partners in each of the Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehj?lp and Save the Children International led Consortia are all in attendance as we co-create and jointly design the intervation.
