关于我们
Partners for Sacred Places, founded in 1989, is the only national, non-sectarian, nonprofit organization focused on building the capacity of congregations of historic sacred places to better serve their communities as anchor institutions, nurturing transformation, and shaping vibrant, creative communities. Places of worship play vital roles in their neighborhoods and the broader community. They are significant landmarks, places where people access programs and community services, and a focus of neighborhood physical and social identity. Partners builds the capability of congregational leadership to enact building care, shared-use partnerships, and capital fundraising through training programs, fundraising assistance, and organizational and facility assessments. With a national presence and offices in Philadelphia, Chicago, and Fort Worth, Partners has served thousands of congregations and other local organizations over the past twenty-five years and represents the needs and concerns of over 100,000 older, community-serving sacred places across America.

This past week, we were honored to present in one of the technical sessions for conserving materials and finishes at Historic Preservation Education Foundation - Preserving the Recent Past 4 Conference in Boston, MA (Boston Architectural College)! A special thank you to Kim Gant with GSA for collaborating with us on our presentation about our work on the exterior bronze cladding of the Federal Building in Juneau, Alaska. Our session featured incredible expertise, with presentations by RLA Conservation and Kate Allen, and session moderator @Richard Pieper with Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation We also had the opportunity to attend a joint event with Partners for Sacred Places and Docomomo US which included a tour of two historic Modernist churches: the First Church of Boston and the First Lutheran Church of Boston. Our Jennifer Correia is a board member with Sacred Places and was proud to be there to support them. Reconnecting with our ARG colleagues from LA and Portland (Architectural Resources Group) was a highlight. there’s no substitute for in-person collaboration! #PRP4 #preservingtherecentpast #conservation #historicpreservation #architecture

Congratulations to Called To Serve CDC and Rev. Majors for this monumental milestone! We are excited for you and Mosaic Development Partners JV as you bring this transformative project to North Philadelphia. This project was a marquee example of the importance of our work in helping projects take root and a testament to community design process as a catalyst. We celebrate with you! We are also thankful to Partners for Sacred Places for their collaboration on Sacred Places/Civic Spaces- our initiative that supported three local faith congregations around visions for their spaces. The investment that made this possible from William Penn Foundation & National Endowment for the Arts combining monumental funds for public spaces, art and design. This work was made possible by our incredible team of former staff and consultants who dedicate their careers to equitable community development, the amazing volunteers who donated 1,369 of professional time to set this vision into motion, and the incredible neighbors in the Nicetown/Tioga community who trusted us with their ideas and hopes! We are cheering you all the way to the ribbon cutting!! https://lnkd.in/eCySJkt7
? A Historic Moment for North Philadelphia! ? Yesterday, Called To Serve CDC and Mosaic Development Partners JV broke ground on the Rev. Leon H. Sullivan Community Impact Center (SCIC)—an $18M transformation of Zion Baptist Church’s long-vacant annex into a hub for healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. This milestone reflects Rev. Sullivan’s enduring legacy and the power of public-private collaboration. Thanks to our incredible partners—including Temple Health – Temple University Health System, PIDC, U.S. Bank, the Reinvestment Fund, the City of Philadelphia, Chase Lenfest, and many more—this project is set to uplift Nicetown-Tioga and beyond. ??? What if there was a single statutory change that would enable religious institutions to generate a revenue stream to maintain their historic buildings, while providing much-needed housing for people who need it? New York State has a proposal to do just that - and preservationists should get behind it! In my role leading the federal historic preservation agency, I heard from many, many faith leaders about their challenges maintaining their historic religious buildings - including at events hosted by Partners for Sacred Places and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and in public comments that shaped my report on the Secretary's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (https://lnkd.in/dsfyRrw9). The proposed NY Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act would remove certain zoning barriers to housing creation, enabling congregations to put unused spaces to productive use and to generate extra income that they can use for preservation. This is a straightforward, necessary reform to empower faith institutions to sustain themselves while addressing a critical housing shortage. There are a number of groups working to support this bill: Bricks and Mortals NY, Trinity Church NYC, Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing, New York State Council of Churches, Open New York, The Episcopal Diocese of New York, CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF THE DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN AND QUEENS, United Way, Regional Plan Association, and Ithaca's own Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties and Interfaith Affordable Housing Collaborative to name a few.
