?? Partner Spotlight: Raising The Village ?? We’re proud to support Raising The Village in their mission to eliminate ultra-poverty in #SubSaharanAfrica. Over a 24 month period, they partner with last-mile farming communities to increase household incomes from $0.75/day to over $2/day. Their approach focuses on driving agricultural incomes, creating income-generating opportunities and building an environment for sustainable progress—especially for women, youth, and vulnerable households. #partners #internationaldevelopment #agriculture

?? Partner News! Our partners, Msichana Initiative and Pastoral Women's Council, have garnered significant attention in #Tanzania for their collaborative effort to launch a national campaign advocating for the elimination of taxes on menstrual pads. This campaign addresses the critical issue of numerous girls missing school during their periods due to the unaffordability of pads. The widely broadcast campaign has drawn the attention of the Health Minister, Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, who announced via X that she will be discussing the removal of these taxes with the Ministry of Finance. Furthermore, the two organisations are lobbying for menstrual pads to be included on the essential medicines list and for the government to provide pads free of charge to vulnerable girls. We couldn’t be more proud! #mensturalhygiene #womenandgirls

A big shout out to our partner LakeHub who are based in Kisumu, Kenya. In collaboration with 01Talent, they have launched their first cohort of 100 apprentices. As part of the partnership with 01 Talent, apprentices go through a 2 year training program that transforms them into highly skilled full-stack developers. They master various programming languages such as JavaScript, Rust, and GoLang, and develop an innovative, agile mindset capable of solving problems through creative tech applications. Then, once they complete their core training, the apprentices have a guaranteed employment contract for three years or more with the 01 Talent global talent agency. This opportunity allows them to choose a career path and gain real-world experience to become experts in fields such as artificial intelligence, video game development, blockchain, cybersecurity and DevOps, mobile and web app development, and data engineering. Well done to LakeHub and the cohort of new developers! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g_4DbzDf #kenya #partnernews #technews #developers

Great news from our partners at Last Mile Health who are rolling out Liberia's first national malaria vaccine campaign ?? ??
Last week, we joined Liberia's Ministry of Health, GSK, and partners for the launch of Liberia's first national malaria vaccine campaign. In Rivercess County, trainings began for community health workers on how to educate communities on the vaccine, and for community health supervisors on how to provide vaccinations to children in rural and remote communities. "For far too long, malaria has stolen the laughter and dreams of our children. But today, with this vaccine and the unwavering commitment of our communities, healthcare workers and our partners, we break the chain," said Minister of Health Dr. Louise Kpoto. "We have a powerful tool that will protect them from this devastating illness and related deaths, ensuring their right to health and a brighter future."

The recent floods in Kenya have severely affected communities in most regions with those in slum, informal and rural settings being particularly vulnerable. What is fantastic to see, is when the community pulls together in times like these to support each other - as shown here by our friends at Food For Education.
I spent last week in shelter camps with our remarkable staff who responded to the ongoing floods throughout the week. Some of our Food For Education staff have been affected and as we continue to support them, we’re supporting the communities we work in. In Nairobi, which is worst affected, we’ve been providing meals under #DishiNaCounty. To see kids take home double or triple portions home for their families who need it has been heartbreaking but a sobering reminder of the power of food. It takes courage to respond in the face of uncertainty such as the recent Kenya floods and I would like to commend all who have done so.

A great article about investing in local leaders as well as looking beyond the grant when supporting partners in areas like leadership and advocacy training, mentoring, flexible funding and assisting to expand donor networks. https://lnkd.in/ggeNFwSg

Leadership development is a core pillar of the Orkeeswa model and a necessary component of youth-driven, community-led development. Their students put their education into action through Community Service, Projects Class, and a myriad of leadership opportunities on and off campus. Students build skills around?Leading Self, Leading Others, and Leading Change. Their 10th-grade students have been taking a Projects Class where they identify?problems?and opportunities in their communities, conduct research, and develop advocacy tools. Each group of students is developing a podcast to reach their target audiences as part of their ongoing advocacy campaigns. Their topics have included corporal punishment in primary schools, early?marriage, environmental conservation, food security, access to clean water and more. Definitely worth a listen! ?? https://lnkd.in/deNXesMK
