?? Tariffs, Supply Chains & AI: Why Finding the Right Parts Just Got Harder (and What to Do About It) Supply chains are messy, and tariffs aren’t helping. Every policy change means rising costs, disappearing suppliers, and shipping delays. ?? The numbers tell the story: ?? 40% of disruptions come from skyrocketing raw material costs. ?? 30% of issues stem from supplier shortages—vendors become too expensive or unavailable. ? 20% of delays happen as teams scramble to source alternatives. ?? 10% of extra costs come from last-minute emergency orders. ?? And here’s the kicker: These aren’t temporary problems. Tariffs are forcing companies to rethink sourcing, pricing, and inventory strategies—permanently. Why This Matters for Parts & Inventory Management Tariffs don’t just impact finished products—they shake up the entire parts ecosystem. ?? If your team is struggling to find parts, here’s why: ?? Suppliers are shifting or disappearing entirely. ?? Prices are fluctuating faster than procurement can react. ?? Lead times are stretching, leading to costly downtime. ?? Outdated catalogs and manual processes slow everything down. And let’s be real—maintenance teams don’t have time to search for parts that should be easy to find. That’s where smarter parts intelligence changes the game. ? Companies using AI-driven tools report: ?? 25–50% faster sourcing & procurement—AI finds alternatives instantly. ?? 15–30% lower costs—by identifying better pricing and direct suppliers. ? Less downtime—AI eliminates manual searching and ordering delays. How AI Makes a Difference in Parts Sourcing & Management ?? AI identifies alternative suppliers & manufacturers when tariffs impact current vendors. ?? AI finds interchangeable parts & substitutes to avoid costly delays. ?? AI cleans and structures parts data, so teams spend less time searching and more time doing. AI Isn’t Replacing People—It’s Helping Them Work Smarter Supply chain and maintenance teams tell us: ???? “Finding the right parts is taking longer than ever.” ?? “We don’t have visibility into alternative suppliers.” ?? “By the time we react, we’re already behind.” Sound familiar? That’s exactly why AI-powered parts intelligence is now a must-have. What’s the Takeaway? ?? Tariffs aren’t going away. ?? Parts sourcing is only getting harder. ?? AI is helping teams find, source, and manage parts faster than ever. If you’re still relying on spreadsheets, old catalogs, and endless supplier calls, it’s time for a smarter approach. ?? How is your team handling these sourcing challenges? Let’s chat! ?? Partium | Schedule a Demo #SupplyChain #AIinSupplyChain #PartsIntelligence #Procurement #Tariffs #PartsManagement #MRO

?? AI's Takeover of Supply Chain: The End of Long Tail Spend? In the world of supply chain operations, we're witnessing remarkable shifts. A particularly illustrative example is the transformation of "tail spend" in procurement. Once a neglected area, tail spend is now a prime example of the disruptive potential that new technologies like AI bring to the table. Here's why this story matters: ???Tail Spend: There is More Than Meets the Eye - Represents 80-90% of purchased items but only a fraction of total spend. - Characterized by low-volume, one-off orders scattered across numerous suppliers and often absolutely lacking optimization. ???Digital Innovation got us half way Companies have leveraged digital innovations over the last couple of years to optimize the tail end of the supply chain. Examples are Sourcing Platforms, Smart Distributor Strategies, Data Analytics and Text Mining. So far, so good. However, it looks like AI is going to be the real disruptor in this space. Wonder why? ???AI: A Game Changer in Data Optimization Historically, data quality posed a significant challenge in tackling tail spend, compounded by OEMs' hold on parts data. Now, AI is breaking through barriers, enhancing poor, messy, and often deliberately obfuscated data at scales never before possible. AI is increasingly able to take parts lists, "understand" the data, and pull from relevant sources to curate a richer, better data set. This new level of "Parts Intelligence" is a game-changer, likely to alter how companies manage relationships with OEMs and suppliers. ???What are the broader implications for Supply Chain? - ???Parts Intelligence's Role:?As data quality and sourcing efficiency become crucial, Parts Intelligence is essential for streamlining procurement processes and reducing complexities. - ???Redefining Practices:?AI not only refines existing data but also transforms sourcing methodologies, positioning procurement as a strategic asset. The thing is: In today's economic environment, tail spend isn’t just a peripheral concern — it's a strategic asset ripe for optimization. For the first time, companies can tackle this long-standing issue by leveraging AI. Most importantly: The transformation of tail spend exemplifies how emerging technologies can drive value from what was once seen as a costly challenge. Technology can and will convert long-standing challenges into valuable opportunities across the supply chain, underscoring the disruptive potential that AI-based digital transformation holds in redefining operational norms. I’m curious: How is your company embracing this digital revolution? Are you turning potential into performance in the supply chain? Let's share insights and experiences on digital transformation in procurement! #SupplyChainInnovation #DigitalTransformation #PartsIntelligence #OperationalExcellence #SupplyChainEvolution

What's in this picture? ?? Well, to some it's just a Taylor C602 machine. To others, it's a crucial piece of equipment for churning out delicious ice cream at McDonalds. ?? To its manufacturer, it's a business model – sell the machine, and then reap the rewards from ongoing service contracts, parts and labor. ?? But to many, it's simply known as... the McDonald's ice cream machine. This iconic machine has become a symbol of frustration ?? for customers and a source of endless debate. ??? Few people know that the OEM (the Taylor Company) used to be the only company authorized to fix Taylor C602s. Repairs account for a quarter of Taylor's sales, and it can take weeks for a technician to arrive on site to address the problem. ? The thing is: It looks like this business model just imploded for the C602 when Congress approved an exemption to the?Digital Millennium Copyright Act?for bypassing copyright restrictions to?allow for repair?of commercial food preparation equipment, which covers the Taylor ice cream machines. ?? This victory for the Right to Repair movement has significant implications. While often discussed in the context of consumer electronics, the impact of Right to Repair on the B2B sector will be equally, if not more, profound. ?? Businesses rely heavily on specialized equipment, from medical devices and industrial machinery to agricultural tools and construction equipment. ?? These businesses face similar challenges as consumers: high repair costs, limited access to parts, and long wait times for OEM service. ? This victory for the Right to Repair movement has significant implications. It challenges the long-standing practice of OEMs controlling the entire repair lifecycle of their products, a practice that has often led to: - High repair costs: OEMs often charge exorbitant fees for repairs, leaving consumers with limited options and potentially forcing them to replace devices prematurely. - Limited access to parts: OEMs may restrict the availability of parts, making independent repairs difficult or impossible. ?? - Slow repair times: As seen with the Taylor C602, long wait times for OEM repairs can cause significant inconvenience and frustration for consumers. ?? The McDonald's ice cream machine saga serves as a powerful example of how the Right to Repair movement can disrupt established business models, promote competition, and ultimately benefit consumers. ?? Now, fixing someone else's machine is no easy feat. Identifying the correct parts for these complex machines can be a real challenge. ?? That's a story for another day. ?? What is your take on the right to repair in B2B? #RightToRepair #partium #McDonalds #TaylorC602 #Business #Technology #Innovation #B2B #Tech #Repair

The Case of the Missing Black Book???♀? Meet Mark, a seasoned field technician who prided himself on his efficiency. His secret weapon? A well-worn little black book filled with crucial spare parts information – numbers, suppliers, even hand-drawn sketches. He also kept a collection of sticky notes and old manuals for backup. Today, Mark was facing a monster of a warehouse. Called in to fix a malfunctioning automated sorting system, he reached for his black book…gone! He patted his pockets, checked his tool bag – nothing. Panic started to rise. He pulled out his backup system: a handful of sticky notes with scribbled codes and a thick, outdated manual. None of it matched the equipment in front of him. This system was far too advanced. "This is a disaster," he muttered. The clock was ticking, and the entire warehouse operation was at a standstill. Just then, his colleague Carol, approached, looking concerned. "Mark, what's the holdup?" "I've lost my black book," he explained, frustration evident in his voice. "And these old manuals are useless." Carol smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry," she said, tapping her tablet. "We've integrated Partium." She explained that the company had recently adopted Partium, a parts intelligence solution. With this upgrade, technicians no longer needed to rely on physical manuals or scattered notes. Instead, they could effortlessly identify parts using their tablets or smartphones, streamlining workflows and boosting efficiency. Carol pointed her tablet's camera at the faulty component. The Partium solution instantly recognized the part, pulling up data such as name, part number, specifications, compatible models, supplier information, and even real-time inventory levels – all within their familiar interface. Within a short time, the replacement part arrived. Mark quickly installed it, and the sorting system roared back to life. Mark was amazed. Not only had Partium solved his immediate problem, but its integration streamlined the entire process, from identification to procurement. Mark realized that Partium was far more powerful than his old black book. It was always up-to-date and accessible to everyone. He no longer had to rely on memory or physical documents.
