Marcos, our recently awarded Branch Manager of the Year, has done so much in his 5 years at Park West. He is our “go-to” employee for any task, at any time. If anyone on his team, or the company at large, needs his help, Marcos is always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. It’s because of his willingness and strong work ethic that he was promoted from Account Manager to Branch Manager. Outside of his amazing RELIABILITY, Marcos most represents the core value of PEOPLE. His start in the landscape industry began at just 5 years old, working alongside his dad. Because of this previous experience in the field, he has deep empathy and understanding as to what his team goes through every day and the demands of their workload. He cares so much about his team and goes the extra mile to assist, resolve, or remedy any situation or issue that comes up. When Marcos isn’t at Park West, you can catch him at the gym. Five years ago, Pablo came to Park West as an Irrigator. Because of his strong skillset and extensive irrigation background, he was an easy choice and an instantly good fit. Applications of Gained Technical Expertise in Irrigation As part of the technical training I developed for Danny Smith’s employees at Park West Landscape, attendees learned how to read the performance charts of different types of sprinklers. This knowledge is essential for conducting in-depth PMIs that go beyond simply repairing broken heads and correcting basic sprinkler misalignments. The goal is to ensure both: 1.???????Proper sprinkler operation by adjusting the zone’s dynamic pressure to the manufacturer’s recommended optimum pressure. 2.???????Correct nozzle selection to achieve matched precipitation, particularly for rotors and MP rotators. We also discussed the effects of high and low pressure on sprinkler performance, the visual cues for identifying these issues, and how to measure pressure at different points in the system, from the POC to the sprinkler. For high-pressure situations, attendees learned how to adjust a pressure regulator located at the POC (whether installed individually or as part of a master valve), and how to determine the appropriate pressure setting for optimal system operation. We also covered pressure regulation at the valve, available PRS options for spray heads, high-efficiency rotary nozzles, and rotors, as well as PRB options for Hunter PGP Ultra and I-20 models. With the hydraulic knowledge gained in previous classes, attendees were able to troubleshoot low-pressure situations. This understanding was instrumental in analyzing why, for example, an increase in nozzle size results in greater flow demand and, inevitably, increased friction loss. To reinforce classroom instruction, attendees conducted the following field assessments at the properties they manage: 1.???????Measuring static pressure at the POC to calculate the system’s maximum flow, considering the size of the water meter and service line. 2.???????Measuring the dynamic pressure at various points to calculate the pressure drop throughout the system, which is an essential troubleshooting technique for diagnosing low-pressure issues. We concluded the program by discussing the key steps involved in designing a line-source drip system, including: 1.???????Determining emitter flow rate and spacing 2.???????Calculating lateral spacing and maximum lateral length 3.???????Sizing the supply and exhaust headers 4.???????Selecting and sizing the control zone components (valve, filter, and pressure regulator) The first group of 40 employees has completed the program, and I am currently training an additional 40 employees. Carlos came to Park West with over two decades of knowledge and experience within the landscape industry. He worked as an Irrigation Technician and as a Foreman for a previous Maintenance company, gaining valuable insight and hands on experience in both roles. Years later, Carlos found Park West, where he held his first title as an Assistant Account Manager, but it wasn’t long until Carlos’s abilities were noticed, and he was promoted to Account Manager. During the last 5 years at Park West, Carlos has pushed himself to become a stellar Account Manager; he has made a point of developing strong relationships with board members and his team. Carlos has even fostered such a strong relationship with a past board president that they still remain in contact today. Because of Carlos, his crews are empowered and encouraged to work together to solve problems, which has created a stronger crew culture. Carlos clearly embodies the core values of PEOPLE and ACCOUNTABILITY in everything he does. Outside of Park West, Carlos is busy spending time with family.
