?? There's a simple way that our cities can support small business, reduce traffic, build more abundant housing, and improve air and water quality. Eliminate costly and arbitrary minimum parking mandates! ?? I've seen thousands and thousands of these outdated and silly rules in zoning code across the USA and I think you'd be hard pressed to prove they weren't derived by rolling dice or reading bird guts. ??♂? ?? Almost everyone - from commercial property managers to coffee shop owners to regular folks looking for a nice walkable apartment - can benefit from this simple reform. Follow and join Parking Reform Network to help make your city better.

关于我们
The Parking Reform Network is a public benefit non-profit organization with the goal of educating the public about parking policy and assisting others with parking reform. Our focus is on the collection and dissemination of support materials, creation of networking opportunities, and policy review. Parking Reform is the use of policies and activism to discourage the building of excessive parking supply and encouragement of more equitable, efficient and sustainable management of existing parking supply (usually by pricing parking).

If you care about affordable housing, you need to care about FREE PARKING. I know this sounds crazy to the uninitiated. But I can explain! The cost of parking infrastructure has been built into the cost of housing, and sometimes it prevents housing from being built at all. And this way of thinking is even common in normal people who don't think about city planning or zoning at all. For a quick snapshot of proof, check out the last ADU video we did on YouTube. We talk about 12 very specific tweaks that make it easier to build housing in California, specifically how these laws affect ADUs. And the comments are rife with complaints about where people will park their cars. The truth is that if you want to convince neighborhoods to accept more housing, you also have to learn how to talk about parking. These two concepts have been tied together for decades in the US. If you want to learn more about how parking and housing are bound up, and how we can improve things, check out the latest episode of our podcast where we summarize key points from the book Paved Paradise by Henry Grabar and interview one of the subjects of his book, Tony Jordan from the Parking Reform Network. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/gQSv5E7a I don't know what possessed me to record the podcast in a noisy parking garage. Youtubers fundamentally don't get the concept of an audio-first medium?
