At our staff meeting today, we had the privilege of learning from Dr. Kate Ekman, child psychologist and founder of Confidence Club Child Therapy Services in Oakland.?Dr. Ekman led a great mini-workshop on ‘Executive Functioning and Why it is Foundational to All Learning,’ equipping our faculty and staff with valuable strategies to better support our students' emotional and academic development. Thank you for sharing your expertise with our community!

We are so excited to welcome Azureé Harrison to the Park Day School community as the new Head of Lower School! Azureé has been busy getting ready for the 24-25 school year and is so excited to welcome students and families back to campus in just a few weeks. If you really knew Azureé you'd know that they are a very adventurous and creative person and that they love to connect with nature. Azureé has taught many grades, but spent the most time teaching 2nd grade! Their leadership philosophy is guided by two African principles: Ubuntu and Sankofa. Ubuntu, meaning “I am because we are,” emphasizes our interconnectedness. Sankofa, meaning “it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind,” reminds us that our personal stories and the stories of those who have come before us are immensely valuable as we co-construct and design for our future as a school, and as those who are inheriting the legacy of Oakland and its rich history. Their primary goal for their first year at Park is to build authentic relationships with students, families, and staff. Welcome, Azureé, we're so glad you're here!

Jennifer Cooper, our Director of Facilities, and Middle School Learning Garden & JEDI teacher Terri Edwards-Nixon attended the Green Schools conference last week in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They met with hundreds of educators, school administrators, students, and public officials from across the country to learn more about innovative sustainable schools and campuses, as well as inspiring programs focusing on climate literacy, environmental justice, and amplifying student voices on environmental issues.?Thanks for a great conference Center for Green Schools and Green Schools National Network!
