Last month, members of the National Center had the privilege of touring a campus of the Neighborhood House Association, a Parents as Teachers Curriculum Partner in San Diego. Established in 1914 as a settlement house, NHA has assisted immigrants in transitioning to life in the San Diego community. Now, in its 110th year, the agency has grown to become one of the largest nonprofits in San Diego County, distinguishing itself as a cutting-edge, comprehensive human service provider. As gracious hosts, NHA treated us to a much-needed afternoon snack prepared by their nutrition services team while we learned about their history, mission, and the work they do in the region. We had the opportunity to explore everything the campus has to offer and speak directly with home-visiting service providers. Happy 110th anniversary to NHA! Thank you for the warm welcome and for everything you do for families in San Diego and beyond.

We represented Parents as Teachers for #NationalParentsasTeachersDay in Anaheim California last week during the 2024 Conference with National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)! We had the pleasure of attending the opening session with LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow! ?? Burton has dedicated years to encouraging children to read, leading efforts that provide literary access to children across America. We appreciate his commitment to children and literacy! ?? And it is always a joy to run into Dr. Dipesh Navsaria! #naeycAC #parentsasteachers #txpat #networking #ReadingRainbow #earlyliteracy #LavarBurton Thanks Persephone Starks, M.S. and Patty Velasquez! ?

Last week, employee volunteers from PwC visited our national center to help us with various tasks! PwC is a generous supporter of the Show Me Strong Families affiliate program in St. Louis and Normandy, Missouri. In addition to assisting in our office, the volunteers also had the opportunity to hear from a family who shared their experience as a program participant, including receiving doula services. A heartfelt thank you to PwC for your invaluable support and dedication to our community!

Marcellia (Marcie) Lopez was a committed #homevisitor who’s work profoundly impacted countless families and children in the Rocky Ford, Colorado community for 22 years. Marcellia passed away this October, and left a legacy of love, support, and transformation. These are just a few of the kind memories her team at the Tri-County Family Care Center had to say about her. Parents as Teachers National Center is proud to honor Marcie on #NationalParentsasTeachersDay and thank her for the service she provided to her community. And thank you to the team at Tri-County Family Care Center for sharing Marcie with us.
