Laxman Narasimhan is not a good CEO. Paragon Intel said as much when he joined Starbucks in early 2023. Since then, down (50%) against the market. Brian Niccol is a great CEO. We said as much when he joined Chipotle in 2018. Since then, up 481% against the market. The former has been weak in all the places he's needed to be strong. The latter keeps playing to his strengths. Today Narasimhan got the boot and Niccol got the call for the Starbucks CEO job. And just like that, SBUX pops 20% and CMG drops (14%). Patrick Gelsinger is not a good CEO. Paragon Intel said as much back in July of 2021 If you had invested $100 in Gelsinger while he was CEO at VMWare and Intel, you would have $61. If you had invested in the SOXX, the ETF of his competitors, over the same period, you'd have $1,100. That's the investing side. But bad CEOs also impact people. Companies that don't grow lead to layoffs. In this case >15,000 people. More than 10% of America's workforce is employed by the top 1,000 public companies.
