We’re excited to be part of Water Connects Us All, an upcoming exhibition at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center that explores the powerful intersection of art, science, and marine conservation. ?? As part of this exhibit, PangeaSeed facilitated a special collaboration between artist Jill Pelto and scientist Jodie Toft (Puget Sound Restoration Fund) to create a brand-new science-communication artwork focused on two endangered species in Puget Sound: pinto abalone and bull kelp. After weeks of remote collaboration and a field visit to PSRF’s abalone hatchery and kelp beds, Jill is transforming real marine science data into a compelling visual narrative. This piece will highlight the urgent need for conservation efforts to restore these species and their fragile marine habitat. (Yes, we know this isn’t a sea turtle emoji but a tortoise…) Just in time, we’re stoked to share that long-time PangeaSeed supporting artist Zoe Keller (@zoekellerart) is back with her seventh Printed Oceans edition in her Marine Biodiversity series. “Sea Turtles of the World” is a limited art print edition, available in two sizes, the larger of which is uniquely hand-embellished. The artwork reminds us that what we see today may be gone?tomorrow?and not to take our blue planet’s spectacular biodiversity for granted. After all, these ancient creatures have been on Earth for more than 100 million years(!) — even surviving the dinosaurs, but now six of the seven species of sea turtles are threatened or endangered at the hands of humanity.
