As a palliative care physician and researcher at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Yvan BEAUSSANT has dedicated his career to promoting a holistic approach to care, especially as it relates to managing the complex interplay of physical, emotional, social and spiritual suffering. Dr. Beaussant’s current research focuses on exploring how psychedelic-assisted therapies can provide insight into patients' psycho-existential experiences and offer novel ways to address chronic pain and psycho-existential distress. His work is centered on patients with advanced cancer, where unmet needs in pain and psychosocial care are critical. “Building upon our previous research assessing psilocybin-assisted therapy as a treatment for existential distress, this study investigates a similar treatment regimen with a different patient population to look at the experience of pain, especially pain that does not respond well to conventional treatments. In this study, we also look at the connections between physical pain and psychological distress to understand how pain interacts with mental health. I’m really interested in understanding how improved mental health and improved outlook can potentially impact physical symptoms, engagement in cancer treatment and even survival.” Learn more about this groundbreaking research and how it could constitute a major advancement in cancer care for all cancers: https://lnkd.in/gp3KEZiE

Pancreatic Cancer North America funds innovative research to raise survival rates.
关于我们
Pancreatic Cancer North America (formally PancONE Network Inc.) aims to disrupt the traditional approach to discovery in pancreatic cancer by bringing together multiple sectors, innovations, and novel methods to drive real change. Pancreatic cancer is known as the world’s toughest cancer. Over the past 50 years, we’ve seen only marginal improvements in survival and yet it remains one of the most overlooked and underfunded cancers. Pancreatic Cancer North America, together with our partners at Pancreatic Cancer Canada, have decided that enough is enough. We’ve raised enough sympathy – it is time to raise survival rates.

Thank you Good-Wil Consulting Inc. for sharing this profile on our dynamic president & CEO, Michelle Capobianco. We are grateful for her leadership as we take on the world's toughest cancer.?
Meet Michelle Capobianco, President & CEO, Pancreatic Cancer North America - a dynamic leader who is redefining the fight against one of the deadliest cancers. She is driven, tenacious, and passionate about creating change in an industry that often has to “plead for funding.” Michelle credits her former mentor, Stanley Hartt, the former Chief of Staff for Brian Mulroney, for encouraging her to stand firm and embrace her confident, assertive style. She’s shown us what it means to push beyond limits, ask "why not?" at every turn, and build support for work that truly matters. Their slogan, “We’ve raised enough sympathy; it’s time to raise survival rates” really sums up her fierce commitment to changing outcomes for patients and families. Her take on purpose-driven leadership and standing up, even when it’s tough, left us with so much to think about. On October 24, our CEO, Michelle Capobianco, along with members of our Board joined representatives of the Warren Y. Soper Charitable Trust for a behind-the-scenes tour of Dr. Eugene Koay’s research lab. We are proud to be the sole funder of his groundbreaking research project at The MD Anderson Cancer Center to improve early detection and overall outcomes for pancreatic cancer using radiomics and artificial intelligence.? We are grateful to the Warren Y. Soper Charitable Trust for kick starting this project with a generous multi-year investment to help us reach our fundraising goal of $2 million USD over five-years to fund this exciting new research initiative. Throughout #PancreaticCancerAwarenessMonth, we're featuring personal stories from our community members who share their reasons for joining us to demand more progress and better outcomes. Despite a Stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis, Dan Murphy is living with the disease. He credits genomic testing for life-extending treatment, allowing him to travel and have more time with his wife and two daughters. With your support, we can fund research to advance early detection and treatment options so that Dan's story does not remain a rarity. Personally motivated by his own family experience with cancer, Dr. Eugene Koay has dedicated his career to unravelling some of the mysteries of pancreatic cancer. Dr. Koay, Professor of GI Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas?MD Anderson Cancer Center is the lead researcher on an innovative study funded by?Pancreatic Cancer North America that is harnessing artificial intelligence for the early detection of pancreatic cancer. “What excites me about this research is the opportunity to make real progress against a very deadly disease. It’s also thrilling to work at the cutting edge, as no other research currently combines this specific set of biomarkers with medical imaging. For the first time, we’ll be able to explore how these tools and technologies can improve outcomes for patients at risk.” Learn more about this cutting-edge research and how it could dramatically change survival rates for pancreatic cancer by advancing our knowledge about early detection: https://lnkd.in/giJNU9K5 #pancreaticcancerawarenessmonth #survivalnotsympathy #pancreaticcancer #cancerresearch

Throughout #PancreaticCancerAwarenessMonth, we're featuring personal stories from our community members who share their reasons for joining us to demand more progress and better outcomes. Last year, Sarah and her brother David shared a powerful message as he actively faced a terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Sadly, David passed away, at the age of 48, shortly after his video aired. Sarah beautifully articulates the heartbreaking reality of pancreatic cancer, and underscores the urgency for change. Today marks the beginning of #PancreaticCancerAwarenessMonth which serves as an urgent call to action to demand more for those impacted by this disease. Pancreatic cancer is the third deadliest cancer, and it's on target to become the second by 2030. Over the past 50 years, we’ve seen only marginal improvements in survival and yet it remains one of the most overlooked and underfunded cancers. Pancreatic cancer has taken too many lives, far too quickly. Together, we can do more. Learn how you can get involved throughout the month of November on our website: https://lnkd.in/gRAk28xx

Countless first responders have passed from 9/11 related illnesses, and cancer continues to be the most dangerous threat to a fire fighter’s health and safety today No longer can we allow our brave fire fighters to face this disease alone. Our partners FDNY Fired Up for a Cure are hosting their first Annual Remembrance and Honor 5k Family Walk/Run this Saturday, October 26. We invite you to join or donate to this important event and support our heroic NY fire fighters and their loved ones. We are witnessing increasing rates of pancreatic and 17 other cancers among younger generations. Eileen O'Reilly, a gastrointestinal medical oncologist at?Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, shared with with BBC News?that she sees cases of pancreatic cancer in patients under 40 nearly every week. "These are people in the prime of life, who are starting families and have everything to live for. The implications for society are profound." This frightening rise in early onset pancreatic cancer underscores the importance of not only knowing the signs and symptoms, but also reinforces an urgent need for patient empowerment. With Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month quickly approaching, this topic is one we'll continue to focus on throughout November and the coming months. Read more on our website: https://lnkd.in/eJnfhZZD
